- Provide full-scope direct patient care in an ambulatory clinical setting.
- Participate as needed in chart review and clinical coding compliance activities.
- Assist in the supervision of Advanced Practice Providers at the clinic.
- Supervise medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare learners.
- Assist in administrative/clinical quality improvement functions.
- Provide education to fellows, residents, and medical students when the clinic is hosting learners
- Maintain eligibility for School of Medicine Faculty.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field, both academically and through applied skills.
- Attend and present at conferences, meetings, and training to maintain certification and enhance professional skills; participate in faculty development activities.
- Serves as the physician leader for the Innovation Practice.
- Provides leadership, vision, direction, and support to clinic administrative leadership and providers.
- Leads the development of clinic processes and evaluation of innovation projects and their integration into the clinic, in conjunction with the project leader and the Department of Family Medicine Clinical Affairs designated team members.
- Is the dyad partner with the Practice Manager.
- Serves as the clinical leader for quality initiatives to include but not limited to NCQA/PCMH, RAEs, Primary Care 1st, Medicaid UPL, and other value-based programs.
- Identifies and leverages opportunities for operational efficiencies and consistencies.
- Along with the practice manager, Co-Leads the clinic's routine provider meetings and staff meetings
- Collaborates with the CU Medicine Director of Primary Care Operations and the Department of Family Medicine Clinical Affairs designated team members.
- Develops and supports positive working relationships with faculty.
- Advocates for Family Medicine faculty, staff, and patients.
- Establishes guiding principles for call schedules, vacation schedules, etc.
- Reviews and addresses escalated patient, provider, and staff complaints.
- Ensures provider compliance with University of Colorado School of Medicine and CU Medicine policies and procedures.
- Ensures provider compliance with CU Medicine initiatives to include training as needed.
- In collaboration with their clinic administration partners, assesses space and staff utilization; develops, implements, and evaluates solutions as needed.
- Collaborates with the School of Medicine and DFM education leaders to ensure mutually beneficial integration of educational needs and clinic operations.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates the strategy for quality improvement.
- Works with the DFM HR and Clinical Affairs Team to recruit new faculty.
- Leads the OPPE process for clinicians with UCHA privileges.
- Provides new faculty orientation and mentorship in conjunction with Department HR, the SOM, CU Medicine, and Epic.
- Develops plans for and assures compliance with advanced practice provider supervision.
- Provides supervision for faculty in the clinic, providing feedback and/or participating in Performance Improvement Plans in collaboration with DFM on issues that have escalated.
- Conducts annual reviews in conjunction with department processes.
- Supports DFM goals for productivity, hours, and revenue.
- Assures stewardship of additional clinic funding, i.e., RAE, Primary Care 1st.

Job Summary:
Nature of Work
The Innovation Practice Medical Director will provide inaugural clinical leadership to the Department of Family Medicine Innovation Practice in partnership with the CU Medicine Primary Care operations team for the delivery of high-quality clinical care, productive clinical operations, and a positive work environment for faculty and staff.
They will represent the medical care provided and the medical providers through the start-up and growth phases of the clinic.
The Innovation Practice will begin with 3-4 providers and mature to 8 providers over the next 2-5 years.Care may be provided within a clinic setting, in the home or workplace, via telemedicine or asynchronous means, and will use new concepts, products, and services to improve outcomes.
New ways of patient care will be tested, and technology, care teams, practice structures, and products proven to provide value will be rapidly disseminated across clinics in the system and throughout Colorado.
The clinician (MD or DO) in this position will function as a family medicine physician in a family medicine clinic, providing high-quality medical care.
This position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position: During the start-up phase of the clinic, .25 FTE support will be provided to perform Medical Director duties (including APP Supervision), and .75 cFTE will be dedicated to providing clinical care, including maintaining a continuity panel of patients at the Innovation Practice.
