    This is a remote position.

    OVERVIEW


    As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and support of database applications for enterprise-wide system migrations, programming ETL programs using SQL server Integration tools.

    This position is part of a data migration team in an Agile/Scrum environment.

    You will automate processes, troubleshoot technical issues, develop and test SSIS programs, and resolve problems with SQL Server and its integrations.

    You will gather software requirements, coordinate with technical teams, and work with senior management to understand and prioritize data and information requirements.

    We are seeking developers with a passion for continuous delivery and automation.


    In this position, you must be able to collaborate with senior staff as well as work independently when given a task.

    Requires two or more years of experience with SQL Server, TDD, TSQL, and Entity Framework or other ORM. Must have experience with data migrations and ETL tools. C# programming experience is a plus. Must have good team and communication skills and troubleshooting skills. Must be able to address issues on behalf of the users.


    In this position, you will ensure government case management systems migrate smoothly, leveraging your expertise in data mapping, ETL, SSIS, codes administration, testing, database administration, and program deployments.


    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Analyze and design SQL solutions;
    • Expand and optimize data and data pipeline architecture;
    • Collaborate with analysts, developers, database administrators, and designers in conceptualizing and developing new software programs, databases, and applications;
    • Translate business requirements into a structured, maintainable and performant designs that meet product requirements;
    • Design and specify test procedures including unit, system, and integration testing. Design system/program test data, debug programs using appropriate system tools and ensure system/program results are accurate to meet system/program specifications;
    • Responsible for designing, evaluating, and creating systems to support data migration projects;
    • Design, develop and implement ETL/ELT processes;
    • Create migration packages for system and user testing;
    • Perform post-implementation validations of software;
    • Ensure integrity of data, code and configuration through use of revision control, backup, documentation and defined release procedures;
    • Develop logical and physical database models designed to meet system and business requirements;
    • Designing and building data transformation pipelines that will supply high quality structured data for various teams;
    • Conduct code/configuration reviews ensuring high quality well documented solutions;
    • Expected to provide support for production system issues;
    • Apply industry best practices and software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and DevOps concepts;

    LOCATION
    This position is full time and can be off-site (remote) or onsite in Lansing, Michigan; or a hybrid arrangement. Remote workers will travel to Lansing, Michigan monthly for 2 days onsite.

    Requirements

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS


    EDUCATION

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field or college level coursework or equivalent combination of education/experience.

    EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience in analyzing, designing, coding, testing, performance tuning, and documenting production database systems;
    • 2+ years of experience creating logical and physical database models and the ability to program relational database management systems;
    • 2+ years of experience with Entity Framework or other ORM required;
    • 2+ years of experience with data migrations/ETL processes required;
    • Experience with TDD and source control;
    • Experience working on Agile/Scrum teams; desire to work in a pair programming environment;
    • Experience leading SQL/Database initiatives and processes in a continuous delivery environment;

    KNOWLEDGE

    • Expert with software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies and best practices;
    • Expert in developing complex TSQL stored procedures, views and functions on MS SQL Server;
    • Expert level of understanding of IT architectures and technical standards;
    • Knowledge of using SQL Server Management Studio to create and run SSIS packages;
    • Knowledge of query, index, statistics, execution plans and DB I/O performance tuning;
    • Expert with common SDLC development and source control tools (TFS, Git, Visual Studio, etc.);
    • General knowledge and understanding of networks (TCP/IP, DNS, SNMP, etc.);

    ABILITY

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
    • Facilitate working meetings, elicit and solicit information, and absorb the information being communicated; facilitate a shared understanding of the problem, possible solutions, and scope of the project in its entirety; facilitate solutions to technical challenges among multiple teams when they involve negotiation between multiple business and technical stakeholders;
    • Evaluate multiple options before facilitating the solution to a problem;
    • Apply critical thinking skills to determine the appropriateness of requests, with periodic reviews of business procedures to clarify or change a business process. Use the knowledge gained in the daily operational procedures as input to business process and procedure documentation;
    • Demonstrate intense curiosity to understand how complex systems and challenges work and demonstrate desire to seek out complex issues and solve them;
