    Department Overview:

    Neighborhood Strategies is part of NYCEDC's Planning Division and, together with the Land Use and Transportation Departments, works to promote robust, inclusive growth in New York City's neighborhoods and waterfronts. The Planning Division advances major projects that engage communities in planning for their future; helps build vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods; directs strategic infrastructure investments; leverages the City's public assets; strengthens transportation systems; and promotes a strong public realm, economic opportunity, and climate resilience.

    The Neighborhood Strategies department leads complex, multidisciplinary neighborhood planning efforts across the five boroughs, leveraging the policy tools and resources of NYCEDC divisions and City agencies. The team plans for large-scale public infrastructure investment and public-private development projects; conducts spatial analyses to identify and deepen understanding of neighborhood vulnerabilities and opportunities; and shapes and leads public engagement and outreach to meaningfully engage communities and stakeholders in inclusive planning. The team is made up of dedicated public servants with a passion for New York City and its people and neighborhoods.

    Neighborhood Strategies' notable current work includes the Together for Kingsbridge community vision plan to guide redevelopment of the nation's largest historic armory in the Bronx; the Staten Island North Shore Action Plan, a generational investment to create a vibrant, mixed-use waterfront in the borough's urban center; the FiDi & Seaport Climate Resilience Master Plan for flood protection and open space in Lower Manhattan; implementing Science Park & Research Campus (SPARC) Kips Bay, a partnership with New York State and CUNY to create a first-of-its-kind life sciences, health care, and public education hub; and revitalizing the public realm while catalyzing transit-oriented development around the Broadway Junction transit hub in East New York, Brooklyn. in East New York, Brooklyn.

    Position Overview:

    The selected candidate will play a central role on several projects by organizing and helping to lead internal and consultant project teams; tracking progress towards agreed upon goals, ensuring projects are on-time and within budget; supporting community engagement processes; and supporting our interdisciplinary teams as they develop and implement plans for complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    Under the direct supervision of a Vice President or Senior Vice President, the Senior Project Manager's primary areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Work with multidisciplinary teams to support large-scale planning and development efforts by producing high-quality work product, meeting deadlines and communicating across various audiences
    • Assist in the preparation of a wide variety of graphic and written materials to support project teams including graphics, maps, presentations, web content, written narratives, and other materials
    • Provide support in the crafting and implementation of public engagement processes, including in-person and virtual events, online forums, and other means of reaching a diverse range of interested and affected New Yorkers
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with staff across NYCEDC and with partner agencies, consultants, and external stakeholders
    • Meet deadlines set by manager(s), and communicate to manager(s) any changes to agreed-upon schedules or other deliverables

    Requirements:
    • Applicants should provide a cover letter and example of a professional presentation, memo, or other appropriate work product with their application
    • Three plus years of work experience, including any previous internship or fellowship experience
    • Master's degree in urban/city planning or related field, including but not limited to public policy, geography/GIS, architecture, sociology, real estate, engineering, or law, is preferred
    • Demonstrated experience in project management and creative problem-solving
    • Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following topics: urban infrastructure; open space & public realm; public-private real estate development; climate resilience & sustainability; urban design; land use & zoning; waterfronts & greenways; and inclusive planning & public engagement
    • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently with guidance
    • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and follow-up skills
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including effective written, verbal, and analytical skills
    • Experience creating clear maps and other compelling graphics for a variety of audiences
    • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office applications including Excel, and ESRI's ArcGIS software preferred
    • Experience with community outreach and translating concepts into materials that can be understood by a wide range of audiences
    • Interest in public service, the built environment, and New York City's people and neighborhoods
    • Occasional travel across the five boroughs of New York City
    • New York City residency is required within 180 days of hire
    Salary Range

    $80,000-$82,000 USD
