A full-time Research Informatics Scientist with proven and extensive experience in single-cell/single nucleus transcriptomics studies in the brain is available at Neurocrine Biosciences in San Diego, California.
The position will support animal model and cell culture studies integral to neuroscience drug development programs. A Ph.D.
in bioinformatics or related disciplines plus 4+ years of experience that includes exposure to neuroscience and drug discovery is preferred.
The initial focus of this position will be bioinformatic approaches using 10X Genomics and short-read sequencing of cells and/or nuclei from the brain with future expansion to RNA and DNA analyses that include long-read sequencing platforms.
_Your Contributions (include, But Are Not Limited To)
Support 10X Genomics bioinformatics for cell clustering and gene ontology applications to drive data analyses of single brain cell and cell line datasets
Develop and customize new informatic approaches and pipelines
Access, manage and analyze large sequencing datasets for both RNA and DNA
Access, manage and analyze metadata including medical record datasets
Requirements
PhD and 4+ years of related experience
Expert experience and familiarity with processing 10X Genomics datasets
Experience with both short-read (Illumina) and long-read sequencing (Pacific Biosciences (PacBio) and/or Oxford Nanopore Technologies) and analysis is preferred.
Knowledge of next generation sequencing toolsets (fastqc, STAR, bwa, samtools, GATK, etc.)Familiarity with NCBI, UCSC Genome browser, Integrated Genomics Viewer
Mastery of command line operations and Linux/Unix operating environments
Expertise with high performance computing clusters and their use in sequence analyses
Fluency in multiple computer languages including R, Python, BASH, Julia, MATLAB and extensive experience in coding
Experience customizing pipelines, algorithms, and quality control metrics for data analysis
Attention to detail with accuracy
Ability to communicate effectively in English and to work in a fast-paced environment
Strong social skills and ability to work with others
