    Description

    **Job Overview:**

    The Direct Support Professional - Per Diem-Overnight is responsible for maintaining a safe, predictable, and therapeutic living environment for children in care at Andrus. The professional provides close supervision, counseling, and support to the children during all cottage-based activities.

    The Direct Support Professional ensures that the basic needs of children are met and that the cottage is maintained in a safe, orderly, predictable, therapeutic, structured, and clean condition. They work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes recreation therapists, teachers, social workers, and other professionals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assure the safety of each resident and for the cottage community
    • Actively supervise the residents at all times, based on their age and level, to assure everyone's safety
    • Enact the program schedule as written and on time
    • Use all aspects of Sanctuary in the care provided
    • Use all techniques of TCI to prevent triggering, intervene early to prevent escalation to crisis, manage any crisis that arises, and ensure safety and learning after any crisis
    • Use the scan system to record consistent monitoring by conducting visual checks of residents every 15 minutes for the duration of the shift
    • Document work in a clear, timely manner with scanning, nightly logs, round-up, census, and other reports
    • Establish safety within the cottage
    • Communicate consistently with colleagues and residents through established systems
    • Maintain flexibility to move to any residential cottage based on program needs

    Essential Qualifications:

    • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (in-service trainings are mandatory)
    • Minimum of HS diploma (or equivalent) plus one year of experience working with children or adults with developmental or behavioral disabilities
    • Computer proficient and navigate Microsoft Office suite
    • Multi-lingual a plus
    • A valid driver's license in good standing for a minimum of 3 years

    Physical/Travel Requirements:

    • Candidates who are successfully hired must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes with a written and verbal test
    • Must possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, and lift weights of up to 30 lbs
