    Description
    Director of Environmental Services

    As a Hospital Environmental Services Director, EVS director will be responsible for day-to-day EVS department's operation, overseeing and managing all aspects of the hospital's environmental services department. His/her primary focus will be to maintain a safe, clean, and sanitary environment within Mercy Hospital facility, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, department policies and procedures and JCAHO/regulatory agency requirements. He/she will promoting patient and staff well-being. He/she will lead a team of environmental services staff, coordinate with other departments, and implement effective strategies to optimize environmental cleanliness and infection control.

    Leadership and Management:
    • Provide strong leadership to the environmental services department, including hiring, training, and supervising staff.
    • Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure efficient and effective operations.
    • Establish performance goals and objectives for the department and monitor progress.
    • Conduct regular staff meetings, promote teamwork, and foster a positive work environment.
    • Environmental Cleanliness and Sanitation:
    • Develop and enforce protocols for cleaning and disinfecting hospital rooms, patient areas, common spaces, and other designated areas.
    • Ensure compliance with infection control guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
    • Oversee the implementation of proper waste management practices, including handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
    • Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of cleaning supplies and equipment.
    Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess the cleanliness and safety of hospital areas.
    • Implement corrective actions to address deficiencies and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Develops a comprehensive waste management program to include, but not limited to, goals, operation requirements, reporting procedures, manifests and documentation for all forms of waste.
    • Ensure compliance with federal regulations, standards and professional standards related to work space design, labor, transport, and maintenance and operations of environmental services.
    • Conducts performance reviews at least annually.
    • Sets the standard for securing cleaning contractors for offsite care buildings to ensure competencies to meet standards and regulations.
    • Oversees performance of all contractors for external care sites where environmental hygiene is performed.
    • Collaborate with infection control committees and other departments to develop and improve infection prevention strategies.
    • Integrates infection prevention and control guidelines and standards within environmental hygiene operations, including waste management, laundry and design and construction plans
    • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to hospital environmental services.
    • Demonstrates working knowledge of health care life cycle analysis and costs to select and maintain furniture, finishes, wall coverings fabrics, window treatments, curtains, floor coverings and privacy/cubicle curtains
    • Ensures all institutional permits, licenses and certificates are current and maintained (e.g., radios, medical waste generator registration).
    • Calculates EVS departmental costs for new buildings or expansions.
    Budgeting and Resource Management:
    • Prepare and manage the departmental budget, ensuring effective utilization of resources and cost control measures.
    • Monitor expenses, analyze financial reports, and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
    • Evaluate and recommend the purchase of cleaning equipment, supplies, and technologies.
    • Foster relationships with vendors and negotiate contracts for service and supply agreements.
    Communication and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, and infection control specialists, to ensure a safe and clean environment for patients.
    • Coordinate with other departments, such as facilities management, to address maintenance and repair needs.
    • Communicate effectively with hospital administration, providing regular reports on departmental activities, performance, and challenges.
    • Conduct staff training programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to environmental cleanliness, safety protocols, and infection control.
    Qualifications and Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, environmental services management, or a related field (preferred).
    • 5 years in Environmental services and/or hospital related departments required. 7 years in Director or manager level experience particularly for management of staff, Special Skills/ Equipment preferred.
    • Proven experience in environmental services management within a hospital or healthcare setting.
    • In-depth knowledge of infection control principles, sanitation practices, and regulatory requirements.
    • Strong leadership and managerial skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders
    • Proficiency in using computer applications and software for data analysis, budgeting, and reporting. such as PM software, and EVS software systems preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to prepare and deliver executive-level presentations
    The pay for this position ranges from $103,000 - $162,000 per year.

    This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
