Purpose/Introduction

The Extrusion Engineer in the Central Engineering Group will report to the Corporate Mechanical Engineering Manager and provide Extrusion & Solids Handling technical support to Chevron Phillips Chemical Company's worldwide Polyethylene manufacturing facilities, turnaround teams, and project execution teams.

This role will work closely with the Corporate Extrusion and Solids Handling Subject Matter Expert and be a member of the Company Extrusion Value Creation Network.

Responsibilities

Corporate engineer for resolving extrusion and solids handling equipment failures or operating issues with existing facility equipment, may lead or participate on root cause investigation teams
Lead or participate in the development of FMEA-based asset strategies, critical spare parts strategies, and leverage across CPChem's worldwide Polyethylene manufacturing facilities
Provide technical and project execution support to capital project teams from Front End Loading through Detail Design, Commissioning, and Startup
Support Project Engineers and Project Managers in the technical vetting of company and contractor extrusion and solids handling personnel capabilities on domestic and international projects
Advise project teams on project specific procurement strategies associated with integrators for packaged extrusion, solids handling, and loadout systems
Collaborate with Global Procurement, Global Process Engineering, and CPChem facilities to develop and maintain Corporate Approved Vendor List for extrusion and solids handling equipment
Support PE turnaround teams and overhaul of extruder trains and associated equipment
Lead or participate in network meetings with company extrusion and solids handling practitioners
Participate in industry associations to stay current in emerging market trends, industry standards, and latest technologies with respect to extrusion and solids handling systems

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Minimum 5 years Polymers plant experience
Experience with extruders, melt pumps, high horsepower low speed drives, gearboxes, and pelletizers
Experience in equipment used for conveying processes such as rotary valves, slide valves, loss-in weight feeders, conveyors, elutriators, blowers, and compressors

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
10 years Polymers plant experience
10 years experience with extrusion and solids handling equipment
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to serve a broad range of company employees, plant leaders, project teams, and engineering contractors
Demonstrated ability to work from a position of credible influence based on extrusion and solids handling knowledge versus a position of authority
Project experience as Owner's Engineer or Extrusion/Solids Handling Lead for design, construction and startup support for a large PE project using phased project execution
Experience in an enterprise "home office" central support or center of excellence
Experience in condition monitoring and condition assessment with Prognost Predictor or equivalent for extruder drives and low speed gearboxes
Experience with Extruder drive gearbox bearing design, lubrication, and root cause analysis
Experience with design of low pressure fixed equipment associated with solids handling systems such as filters, bag houses, and silos
Knowledge of the solids handling industry and demonstrated ability to work with vendors to develop and implement improved solutions to plant related conveying applications
Knowledge of key polymer properties and their impact on the transfer processes such as bulk density, particle size distribution, fluff density, and cohesiveness

Additional Information

Preferred work location is Pasadena, TX

Position will require travel, most of it local in the Houston or Southeast Texas area, with an occasional domestic air or international trip.

Must be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport, work visa, or similar documentation.
