    Description
    JOB SUMMARY:

    Provides psychiatric and general medical care and treatment to patients, in collaboration with and under the direction of a psychiatrist. Reports to the Chief Medical Officer.

    Performs psychiatric and physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of physician. Assess/reassess psychiatric and medical care needs and their management by age group.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    1. Admits patients, completes psychiatric evaluation conducts history and physical (H&P) evaluations within 24 hours of admission.
    2. Assesses patient's psychiatric, physical, and psychosocial needs on a daily basis on the acute-stay units and on a minimum of once weekly basis on the long-term units.
    3. Develops age appropriate treatment plan in collaboration with psychiatrist, patient,
    family and treatment team.
    1. Documents pertinent data including assessment, interventions and evaluations in a timely manner.
    2. Demonstrates clear concise communications about patient care to members of the treatment team.
    3. Collaborates with the psychiatrist and the treatment team on establishing realistic treatment goals for each patient and communicates this with patient and their family or guardian.
    4. Implements appropriate health care interventions as needed, using appropriate guidelines of a Physician's Assistant or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) prescriptive practice.
    5. Prepares and completes discharge instructions and discharge summaries.
    6. Takes telephone calls from patient's family/guardian or agencies involved in the patient's care and provides information deemed necessary or appropriate, following HIPAA guidelines. May consult with collaborating psychiatrist or physician prior to providing information.
    7. Calls in permissible medication to pharmacies under physician(s) collaborative practice agreement as a Physician's Assistant or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges.
    8. Collaborates with physician(s) to address physical or medical needs of patients.
    9. Collaborates with the therapy staff to identify psychotherapeutic needs of individual patients.
    ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
    1. Demonstrates proficient technical skills and operational knowledge of medical equipment and electronic medical records.
    2. Serves as preceptor for trainees and students as needed.
    3. Demonstrates practices to keep all medical record information protected and confidential.
    4. Maintains ongoing professional development by completing required continuous medical education (CME) hours and attending other educational activities that may be required.
    5. Performs other related duties that may be assigned.
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

    Master of Science in Nursing with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner degree or Family Nurse Practitioner degree OR Graduate of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved Physician Assistant training program

    Experience in adult, adolescent and child inpatient psychiatric treatment preferred.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret instructions documents and follows procedures.

    Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively with patients and their families, employees, and public.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables as needed.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule

    Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

    Current West Virginia APRN licensure. Psychiatric Nurse Board Certification or

    NCCAP, Current West Virginia Physician Assistant licensure.

    Ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds and education.

    Ability to maintain independence and confidentiality from other employees as needed in the performance of duties.

    Familiarity with external regulatory and licensure rules and regulations.
