Profile of a Natick Educator



JOB GOAL:  Natick Public Schools seeks a compassionate and highly organized Resource Specialist to support students and families experiencing food insecurity and related challenges. The Resource Specialist will work directly with referred families to assess needs, identify and connect them to community, state, and federal resources, and coordinate wrap-around services that promote student well-being and family stability. This position is school- and community-based and includes travel and home visits as needed. 

This position is from a grant awarded to Natick Public Schools from the MetroWest Health Foundation for a period of two years.





QUALIFICATIONS



Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, education, public health, or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • Professional Certification: not required

    Specialized Knowledge: 

  • Experience working with families, youth, or vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge of community resources, public benefits, and food assistance programs preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across school and community settings
  • Cultural humility and experience working with diverse and multilingual populations
  • Family-centered and strengths-based approach
  • Confidentiality and professionalism
  • Problem-solving and resource coordination
  • Equity-focused and culturally responsive practice
  • Preferred Experience: 

  • Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and PowerSchool preferred, but will train the right candidate.
  • Skills:

  • Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
  • Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable
  • Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
  • Candidates must be flexible and collaborative
  • Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth
  • Candidates must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production
  • Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent, if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.

    Works with district and school leadership to combat systemic barriers that limit student, family, and staff members' equitable access to opportunity

  • Receive and respond to referrals from school staff, the registration process, and family self-referrals
  •  Conduct family needs assessments through meetings, phone calls, and home visits
  • Assist families in applying for food assistance programs (SNAP, WIC, HIP) and other basic needs supports
  • Coordinate referrals to community partners (e.g., Natick Service Council, A Place to Turn, Natick United)
  • Provide short-term case management and follow-up to ensure successful connections to services
  • Collaborate with school counselors, nurses, administrators, and community agencies
  • Maintain accurate documentation and track services, outcomes, and follow-up activities
  • Participate in program evaluation and reporting activities
  • Provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and stigma-free support
  • Additional Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between schools and community locations
  • Willingness to conduct home visits and community-based outreach
  • Flexibility to work some evenings or non-traditional hours
  • Proficiency with basic data tracking and communication platforms
  • Any other relative duties as assigned.

  • communicate and collaborate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person, via video conference, on the telephone, and/or in writing;
  • in the school setting, ensure the safety of students;
  • multitask and meet multiple demands from several people;
