    Opening Date: 04/26/2024Summary Under the general direction of the Public Art Administrator, or designee, the Art Maintenance Technicianassists with planning and organizing work activities and provides general maintenance support for the Public Art Program and Cultural Affairs Division.

    Assists with ensuring that scheduled maintenance is completed and coordinates projects with Cultural Affairs Manager, Public Art Administrator, and other Cultural Affairs personnel.

    Performs general maintenance and repair of city owned art pieces,gallery spaces as well as exhibition installations in City facilities.

    The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position.

    Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

    Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties Essential Job Functions:


    • Assists Public Art Administrator with planning and organizing work activities for the Public Art Program.
    • Provides technical guidance for supplies, parts and equipment and services requested of contractors.
    • Provides routine and preventative maintenance for indoor and outdoor public art in the City's collection.
    • Conducts regular assessments of artworks and create condition reports for upload into collections management software.
    • Assists with exhibition installations.
    • Maintains relationships with conservators and art handling companies.
    • Collaborates with Cultural Affairs staff on emergency preparedness plans for Public Art, Heritage Center, and Discovery Center.
    • Resolves repair issues in a timely and cost-effective manner, according to industry standards, relevant manufacturer's specifications and in a safe manner.
    • Completes maintenance activities in a timely and cost-effective manner, according to industry standards, relevant manufacturer's specifications and in a safe manner.
    • Operates various hand and small power tools and equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and repair operations

    Other Important Duties:

    • May be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.

    Job Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of, and experience with, handling, maintaining, and installing artworks and/or artifacts.
    • Experience with waxing bronze artworks preferred.
    • Lighting and electrical skills a plus.
    • Knowledge and experience required in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering, and technical drawings, plans and specifications.
    • Must have knowledge of pertinent federal, state and City laws, codes, and regulations.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Proficiency in the use of computers, Windows-based applications used in general business and facilities management activities

    Experience, and Certifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years' experience in public art, museum and/or gallery environments with training in art maintenance or conservation.
    • Candidates with no experience with art maintenance, but with demonstrated experience in building maintenance or equivalent combination of training and experience, will be considered.
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical ability test, criminal background check and MVR check.
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

    • Visual Acuity - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
