    DEPARTMENT: Ink and Plate Room

    REPORTS TO: Production Manager

    PAY RATE: From$18hr- Dependent on experience.

    JOB TYPE: Full time - On Site - Rotating Shifts - Weekend Working (when required)

    General Position Summary:

    The Ink and Plate Room Technician plays an integral part in supporting the facility. This includes blending inks to match the color guide and plate making to ensure quality is maintained throughout the process of production. This position is responsible for following and adhering to all production processes as documented and trained by ensuring that all paperwork and information is screened and verified. This position develops color formulas and mixes printing ink, adhesives, and varnishes for production according to established company procedures and customer requirements.
    This position will collaborate with production teams to ensure plates, inks and coatings are prepared to meet customer specifications and production needs.

    Responsibilities

    Ink:
    • Maintain a safe and well-organized ink work area.
    • Follow standard operating procedures, utilizing ink dispensing equipment, color management devices and business system software, to ensure quality standards are achieved.
    • Records color formula in color management software and issues formula and mixing procedure to appropriate workers.
    • Log all information requested on the color match. Maintains file folders containing color ink prints and formulas for each design for use as printing standard.
    • Review of daily production schedule and production status to ensure timely preparation and staging of inks.
    • Maintains Ink room inventories, (inks, solvent, adhesive, operating supplies) maintains toners on Automatic Dispensing System and housekeeping.
    • Review job tickets to verify ink components are available and used as specified.
    • Performs quality color checks.
    • Processes ink returns and recertify to standards.
    • Monitors press for related ink issues and assists with trouble shooting.
    • Processes ink deliveries and stores supplies following FIFO inventory processes.
    Plates:
    • Enter, store, and retrieve information on computer-aided equipment.
    • Ensure proper format, appearance and layout of text and images using computers and various software programs so that FLEXO _ OFFSET _ EMBOSS _ SCREEN plates can be produced.
    • Operate and maintain laser plate-making equipment that converts electronic data to plates without the use of film.
    • Examine images for obvious imperfections prior to plate making.
    • Operate Computer to Plate; monitoring printing quality to ensure that it is adequate.
    • Examine plates to ensure accuracy to designed job in addition to flaws or foreign particles prior to printing.
    • Read job orders to determine the type of work to be done, the quantities to be produced, and the materials needed.
    • Operate machines such as CTP, ESKO IMAGESETTER and FLEXO plate making devices.
    • Monitor machine operation to ensure proper operation. Make support or claim calls.
    • Perform maintenance and update maintenance reporting for all machines.
    • File and store completed documents.
    • Performs daily and periodic cleaning to maintain the required 5S standards throughout the manufacturing area.
    • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulation.
    • Related duties as assigned.
    • Must work well with others in a team environment.

    Specific Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications
    • Excellent teamwork, and interpersonal communications skills
    • Good computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel); plus, ability to learn color management software.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color acuity and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good judgment of color required for Color Hue evaluation.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Must have strong basic mathematical skills (fractions, ratios, rulers and decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
    • Know how to change gallons to kilos and pounds to kilograms.
    • Dexterity of hands.
    • Reasoning ability
    • Ability to meet multiple deadlines.
    • Must be able to multi-task.
    • Must be flexible as multiple shifts are worked at facility.
    Education and/or Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • 3-5+ years of experience in printing and knowledge of ink procedures.
    • Initiative-taking with all continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Combination of education and experience determined by hiring manager.
