    Job Description:

    ECU College Engineering and Technology is currently seeking several chaperons to support 3 one weeklong STEM camps for high-school students from underserved communities. The chaperones will supervise the participating students overnight from 7:00PM to 7:00AM the following day. The STEM camp students will be hosted in ECU dorms and each student chaperon will be provided with a dorm room on the same floor. Student chaperones are also provided with free breakfast in the ECU cafeteria. Student chaperones are paid $12.50/hour, each student can cover up to 40 hours per week.The nights that require coverage are: June 16-20, June 23-27, July 8-12. Applicants are not required to cover all nights listed, the program will attempt to accommodate availability to the schedule.

    Additional responsibilities:· Protect students from vulnerable situations.· Challenge any behavior from adults or children that concerns you and if you continue to be concerned, escalate your concerns to the appropriate person – you MUST familiarize yourself with ECU's Regulation "Programs Serving Minors" REG and follow this policy and procedures at all times.· Be alert to all possible risk to the youth.· Ensure the youth are only ever in the care of the responsible adults during the Flight Academy (i.e. Camp Director, another chaperone or their teacher).Skills and abilities· Effective listener and communicator· Approachable· Empathetic· Remains calm in a crisis· Confident to raise concerns and challenge inappropriate behavior· Decision-maker who takes initiative

    Special Instructions to Applicant:

    Knowledge, Training and Documentation
    · All mentors MUST complete and document attending a free Stewards of Children: Darkness to Light training provided by the TEDI BEAR Children's Advocacy Center prior to the Academy's start date. This training usually requires 2-2.5 hours to complete, and is focused on how to prevent, recognize, and respond to child sexual abuse.· All mentors must also undergo and pass a free criminal background check prior to the Flight Academy's start date.· MUST be an enrolled ECU student at the time of employment.
