    POSITION TITLE: High School Counselor
    Position Type: Full Time - 1.0 FTE
    Pay Range:Pay Range: Salary placement on our Certified Salary Schedule is dependent on the employees' education and/or work experience, starting at BA Step 1 $43,440 - $95,692. Certified/licensed employees will be granted one (1) year for every full year of contractual and/or work experience, which includes in-district and out-of-district contractual teaching and/or work experience.

    Our History
    University Schools is in its 129th year of existence. After a 108 year association with the University of Northern Colorado, University Schools opened as a public charter school, at its current location, in the fall of 2002. In the fall of 2013, a new middle school building was added. University Schools is K-12 and enrolls nearly 1,800 students. University Schools continues to be an integral component of UNC's teacher education mission. University Schools' faculty and staff innovate and model effective student-centered teaching and learning.

    University Schools has two buildings on one campus: an Elementary/High School located at 6525 W. 18th Street and a Middle School located at th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado. Greeley is fifty miles east of the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Greeley is an agricultural community with light industry and a major Colorado university. The city has a population of 103,900 while Weld County has a population of 269,785.

    Summary/Objective
    Responsible for supporting students in the areas of academic success, career and college readiness, and social/emotional development; serving as a resource for students, families, staff, and community; and delivering services within the framework of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Plan, organize, and deliver a data-driven, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate school counseling program to all students based on the ASCA National Model.
    • Provide:
      • Short term individual and small group counseling services that support academic, career, and social/emotional development.
      • Classroom guidance lesson centered on the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success: K-12 College and Career-Readiness Standards for Every Student
    • Respond to student crisis situations and report or refer to appropriate professionals or agencies.
    • Support student transitional activities including registration and grade level transitions.
    • Assist students and families with educational and/or career planning.
    • Provide:
      • Growth opportunities for staff and families.
      • Leadership and expertise in creating a positive school culture and climate that integrates diverse backgrounds, strengths, and needs.
    • Facilitate student problem-solving skills and conflict resolution.
    • Understand and use current job-related technology.
    • Collaborate:
      • With administrators, parents/guardians, staff, and community partners regarding student needs and concerns.
      • With administrators, parents/guardians, staff, and students to develop and implement academic and/or behavior plans and interventions.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to:
      • Understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity.
      • Include and engage families in the student's education.
      • Support all University Schools policies, procedures, and expectations.
      • Provide personal and professional excellence.
    • Participate in:

    Education, Qualification and Related Work Experience
    • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited program and special service provider licensure program required.
    • Experience working with students in a school setting preferred.
    • Experience counseling students in a school setting preferred.
    Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
    • Valid Colorado Special Services license with School Counselor or related endorsement required
    • CPR and First Aid certifications preferred
    • Background check required for hire

    Physical Requirements
    • Vision: (which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods.

    • Speech: to be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone.
    • Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.
    • Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 5 or more pounds on a frequent basis. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch.
    • Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
    Working Conditions
    • Works in standard office and school building environments.
    • May be exposed to poor weather conditions including heat, cold, wet and snow and other outdoor weather conditions.
    • The work environment combines standard office setting including some standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.)
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
