A rapidly scaling organization is seeking an Accounting Manager who brings discipline, accuracy, and leadership to a busy, high impact accounting environment.
The ideal candidate blends hands on technical skill with strong managerial oversight, ensuring clean month end closes, accurate job cost reporting, and tight internal controls.
This role offers the chance to modernize processes, improve tools, and elevate the accounting function during a period of growth.
Successful completion of background, drug, and reference checks requiredResponsibilities:
Ensure accurate, properly coded job cost entries across labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
Review cost codes, budgets, committed costs, and change orders.
Support WIP schedules, cost to complete analysis, and monthly job performance reviews.
Provide PMs with timely cost reports and variance insights.
Maintain consistent job setup and structure within the ERP.
Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and equipment allocations.
Reconcile equipment usage and tie outs, including telematics data.
Maintain the equipment schedule for financial reporting and insurance needs.
Lead month end close, including journals, reconciliations, and GL accuracy.
Maintain the chart of accounts and review staff prepared AP/AR entries.
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting for CFO review.
Support annual audit with schedules, reconciliations, and documentation.
Review AP batches, oversee payments, and ensure vendor compliance (W 9s, insurance, waivers).
Resolve invoice discrepancies promptly.
Review customer billings (T&M, unit price, AIA) and ensure alignment with contracts and retention.
Monitor AR aging and support collection efforts.
Prepare and review bank reconciliations; monitor daily cash and assist with forecasting.
Maintain strong internal controls around cash and disbursements.
Review payroll batches for accurate labor and job allocation; support payroll audits and compliance.
Assist with insurance renewals, workers' comp audits, and tax related filings.
Maintain audit ready documentation and support internal control initiatives.
Identify and implement process improvements for accuracy and efficiency.
Supervise AP, AR, Payroll, and Job Cost staff; provide training, feedback, and coaching.
Promote cross training, organized workflows, and a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years progressive accounting experience.
Strong GAAP knowledge, reconciliation skills, and month end close experience.
Public accounting / audit experience (Big 4, regional, or similar) — especially with construction, manufacturing, mining, engineering, or specialized trades clients.
Construction, manufacturing, mining, engineering, or specialized trades industry accounting experience (heavy civil, GC, subcontractor, or equipment intensive operations).High proficiency in Excel and strong technical aptitude.
Comfortable adopting new systems, automation tools, and AI assisted workflows.
Ability to modernize processes, streamline workflows, and identify operational improvements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize work, and organize team workload effectively.
