Owns technical vision and execution for platforms powering SMBs including merchant payments settlement & reconciliation payouts merchant services developer experiences capital/working-capital lending embedded finance Leads multi-year evolution from on-prem to cloud-native architectures Architects AI-native commerce capabilities including agentic commerce autonomous tool-using AI that reasons and acts across buyer-merchant journeys real-time risk underwriting intelligent payment orchestration Operates across org boundaries to set platform standards influence executive strategy increase engineering leverage at scaleResponsibilities
- Increases results & effectiveness of all software engineers in a large domain
- Sets technology roadmap for a domain
- Adapts their role to need selecting effective means realizing technical goals Provides advice counsel senior executives within PayPal influencing development of multi-year business strategies Exercises wide latitude determining objectives approaches assignments takes initiative achieve results Handles ambiguous unfamiliar situations uses creativity deliver decisive resolutions Uses discovery exploratory research not being limited technical domains make successful decisions Identifies themes trends span projects teams finds broadly impactful opportunities improvement Uses professional savvy determine when industry-standard solutions can be adopted versus when problem space warrants novel solution build/buy Mentors others means propagating technical influence enhance performance organization API platform experience REST/gRPC/GraphQL SDK/developer-experience mindset bias cost-aware operable designs FinOps
