    Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are key strategic priorities at RAND; the responsibility for advancement of DEI is shared with a number of key collaborators and senior leaders across RAND, and also extends to RAND's research activities.

    This role will be focused on the efforts related to improving diversity across RAND's workforce and building a more equitable and inclusive culture.

    In addition, the positionwill serve as a key partner to the senior leaders collaborating on this critical organizational priority, will assist to lead, support, and implement operational activities and initiatives related to our multi-faceted portfolio of DEI efforts, and will collaborate with our HR and Talent Management Team.

    The program manager will leverage their knowledge and experience supporting DEI workplace efforts and serve as a critical point of coordination.

    This position reports to the Chief Diversity Officer and will collaborate closely across RAND on a variety of projects/activities.


    Key responsibilities include:

    • DEI projects : Leading or contributing to a variety of prioritized projects related to DEI at RAND, ranging from recruiting-related efforts to learning and development initiatives to communications. Will work and collaborate directly with a variety of staff at all levels in the course of these efforts and will have the opportunity to shape our strategy and path forward in a number of key areas.
    • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) : Provide ongoing guidance to ERGs to facilitate their effectiveness and serve as regular point of contact to coordinate collaborative efforts across ERGs and other parts of RAND; coordinate with finance operations manager who produces and oversees ERG budgets.
    • Cultural awareness and learning : Enhance employee learning experiences and foster cultural awareness through planning, coordinating, and facilitating community events and programs in partnership with Magnetic Workplace efforts (RAND's broader employee engagement initiative); partner with RAND's ERGs and other staff groups to develop programming and events, as well as to engage and enhance the sense of community among staff.
    • DEI training and facilitation : Coordinate with HR Talent Management and oversee ongoing DEI training efforts as well as help develop our approaches to foster continued learning. May develop and lead educational and other developmental training programs and serve as a facilitator for DEI-related conversations and activities.
    • Serve as a resource for DEI best practices : Stay abreast of key trends and practices in DEI and serve as project lead for external workplace and DEI recognition programs. Confer with HR, Global Research Talent (GRT) and other functional leaders to incorporate and integrate toolkits, guidance materials and other resources to advance DEI and inclusion. Lead and participate in specific benchmarking efforts. The ideal candidate is an analytical, versatile, proactive person who has exceptional judgment and is adept at achieving results in a team-oriented and highly collaborative environment, who can also work independently. The candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as cultural sensitivity and self-awareness. They will be someone who can effectively influence, collaborate with and coach a diverse group of staff at all levels of the organization. Proven project management skills are critical, and the individual should have a history of leading projects and supporting DEI efforts and related change management and communication strategies. The candidate can capably manage and navigate multiple priorities in a multi-faceted and complex work environment . Qualifications
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to leverage influence and address challenging and often sensitive topics with broad-based audiences of all levels
    • Advanced knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles and workplace practices
    • Proven project management skills and a strong track record of execution and the ability to navigate multiple priorities is critical
    • Experience operationalizing DEI strategies and developing tangible action plans, and coordinating follow through with program/project implementation partners
    • Skilled at crafting and delivering presentations
    • Experience, knowledge or skills in organizational development or organizational effectiveness is a plus
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams; experience with other project management tools a plus Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in a related field; with advanced degree desirable. HR or DEI-related certification is a plus. Project management training is a plus. Experience Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in human resources roles with direct experience in DEI strategy, DEI program development, and execution. May include HR business partner or recruitment management responsibilities with specific focus in DEI programs, with at least 3 years of experience in a role directly focused on DEI work. Experience guiding employee resources groups is a plus. Experience in a professional services, research, or academia environment is a plus, as is experience working with highly educated analytical, technical, or knowledge-based workforces. Location Santa Monica, CA; this position is open to a hybrid (onsite/remote) work arrangement. Salary Range $100,100 - $152,400 RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity.

    The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
