    Role Summary:

    The Co-Op in the Neuromuscular Research Group will be trained in a variety of lab techniques and will support analysis of biological samples. The individual will be an integral team member and contribute to the understanding of molecular and cellular phenotypes of in vitro and in vivo models of neuromuscular diseases, discovery and characterization of potential therapeutic compounds using relevant models. The individual will have the opportunity to learn key aspects of discovery research in an intellectually stimulating environment.

    This role is for a period of 6 months, beginning in July.

    This role is based in Waltham, MA without the possibility of being a remote role. Applicants must be able to relocate to the area.

    Primary Responsibilities Include:
    • Executing both manual and automated extraction of nucleic acids and proteins from biological samples
    • Performing qRT-PCR and protein-based assays to assess gene and protein expression in biological samples
    • Performing routine cell culture and cell-based assays
    • Maintaining accurate and clear records of experimental work
    • Supporting histology and microscopy workflow
    • Analysis of data and communicating findings to team members
    • Participating in experimental design, optimization of relevant assays, and literature review
    Education and Skills Requirements:
    • BS/MS and/or pursuing a degree in a biological discipline
    • Previous hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques is desired but not required; more specifically:
      • Handling biological samples
      • Sterile techniques and routine cell culture
      • Nucleic acid extraction and gene expression analysis
      • Protein isolation
    • Willingness to learn and strong work ethic
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a team
    • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and document efforts in the lab
    • Knowledge of software applications such as Prism, Excel, and PowerPoint
