Description

This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for those in need, and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items, helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church.

Under direction of the driver manager, and in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, the incumbent operates a heavy-duty truck-tractor with semi-trailer hauling commodities for the Welfare Self-Reliance Department and General Church throughout the United States and Canada.

Duties include:

Local driving in a safe manner by conducting daily vehicle inspections, performing simple maintenance, completing safety training, pre-planning routes, following all traffic laws, and working within Federal Hours of Service guidelines to deliver on-time.

Local drivers typically travel within a 350-mile radius of the home terminal.

They may also act as a terminal hostler, or haul farm commodities using specialized agricultural equipment which requires doubles, tanker, heavy-haul endorsements.

Local drivers are paid piece rate for miles and stops; are responsible for their own meals and hygiene items, but generally sleep at home.

Expectations include electronic data entry of trip information and hours-of-service records; loading and unloading trailers; refueling and cleaning the vehicle; finding ways to maximize payloads; and conserving resources such as diesel fuel.

They serve as company advocates and church ambassadors in every interaction with customers and the public.

Required

High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years commercial driving experience.
Class 'A' commercial driver license (CDL).
Complete driver qualification file including current motor vehicle record.
Ability to pass random drug tests.
Valid medical certificate.
Physically capable of heavy lifting, climbing, bending, kneeling, stooping, and sitting for extended periods of time.
Able to work in hot, cold, wet, and dusty environments including agriculture chemicals and raw farm commodities.
Working ability to operate basic computer programs and phone apps for safety training and data entry.
Must display required interpersonal skills and dependability to reflect a positive image of the Church.

Preferred

Milk Handlers Permit.
Double trailer and tanker endorsements.
Forklift and Pallet Jack certifications.

55% Driving Tractor/Trailer

35% Loading and unloading trailer and equipment.

4% Performing safety checks, completing safety training, recording driving hours and duty status.

3% Completing required shipping documents and entering data into electronic fleet management systems.

2% Refueling the vehicle.

1% Cleaning the vehicle.
