    JOB SUMMARY


    The Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor provides advanced professional technical skills to the health information management team to work within a self-directed/empowered team environment.

    Working independently and as part of a team to foster, collaborate, and utilize HIM knowledge and skill set to develop and sustain health information systems and processes throughout the health system.

    Minimum Qualifications:


    • Associate degree in health information management or equivalent.
    • Three (3) years of HIM experience or equivalent experience.
    Preferred Qualifications:


    • Prior supervisory experience
    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

    Required:
    Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


    • Leads day-to-day activities of the assigned HIM area with the HIM department.
    • In coordination with the Associate Director/Manager of Health Information Management hires, counsels, evaluates, and provides corrective action to staff as needed.
    • Practices and coaches the team concept approach, prepares action plans, and commonly shares outcomes with other Health Information Management (HIM) Leaders.
    • Develop electronic data reporting tools and coach staff to proficiently utilize them in performing their daily responsibilities.
    • Collects/analyzes patient and institutional data and initiates necessary action steps.
    • Identifies, initiates, implements, and manages process improvements.
    • Interprets and administers personnel and departmental policies.
    • Working with other Supervisors to establish priorities and coordinate the scheduling of all HIM personnel and resources.
    • Submits input to the budgeting process.
    • Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
    • Performs HIM technical support functions as required.
    • Communicates effectively with a variety of individuals representing diverse cultures and backgrounds and functions calmly in situations that require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
    • Maintains current knowledge of best practices regarding health records.
    • Tests and assists with the rollout of new versions/upgrades to the electronic health records system to gain efficiencies.
    • Performs timekeeping duties.
    • Working knowledge of medical records, file systems, chart completion, personnel management, and records management.
    Marginal or Periodic Functions:


    • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
    • Performs related duties as required.
