GFT is seeking a Sr. Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Team in any of the following GFT office locations: Kansas City, MO; Wichita, KS, Omaha, NE; Denver, CO; St. Louis, MO; or Oklahoma City, OK This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of these office locations.

What you'll be challenged to do:

The ideal candidate is excited to work on a variety of complex projects with colleagues who enjoy all aspects of design and engineering analysis. Our ITS Traffic Team generally works on projects involving design alternative analyses, engineering studies, small to large-scale traffic analyses, safety studies, travel demand modeling, and design of traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and lighting. Our success has been built on teamwork with our colleagues in highway, bridge, stormwater, and utility design. Proven ability to work in a team environment and share experience and expertise with teammates is ideal. A successful candidate should be able to plan, conduct and coordinate traffic engineering work, prepare reports, plans and specs for design projects, and monitor multiple project schedules and budgets.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Prepare and direct traffic analysis and studies, including safety studies. Also completes design and plan preparation of traffic signal and interconnect drawings.
• Plan and develop engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches.
• Work independently, as a team member or lead, to execute specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans. Must be able to coordinate responsibilities with the team and/or team leader.
• Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements, and related specifications.
• Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.
• Evaluate and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
• Demonstrates understanding of team management, develop project scopes of work, estimating manpower needs, prepares CPM schedules, and tracks project progress.
• Assure that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.
• Manage and mentor engineers and designers.
• Plan and execute project meetings.
• Assure the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
• Interpret changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.
• Maintain professional and technical skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Assist and participate in preparation of business proposals.

What you'll bring to our firm:

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• Minimum of 15 years' professional experience within Traffic and/or Highway engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in State of Kansas or Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Other state licensing may be acceptable but will need to obtain licensure in other Midwest states as needed.
• Experience working with KDOT or MoDOT and other local transportation agencies.
• Experience with traffic and safety analysis. Knowledge of the MUTCD and Highway Capacity Manual.
• Experience with traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, Sidra or VISSIM).
• Experience with design of traffic control elements such as plans, specifications and estimates for traffic signals, roadway signing, pavement markings, and work-zone maintenance of traffic plans, preferred.
• Thorough knowledge and experience with MicroStation CAD and MS Excel and Word, OpenRoads Designer.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

What we prefer you bring:

• Certified as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
• Capable of leading technical teams to solve complex problems.

Compensation:The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $185,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location. Featured Benefits:
