Join the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services at the Debra Simon Center of Integrative Behavioral Health and Wellness of Hackensack Meridian Health's Hackensack University Medical Center.  

We are seeking a full-time staff Perinatal and Postpartum psychologist with expertise in evidence-based psychotherapy, education, training, and research with a specialization in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders to join a growing team and play an active role.

The Psychologist functions as a Clinical Psychologist under the supervision of the Director of Psychology at the Debra Simon Center, in accordance with the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association, guidelines from the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners, and standards set forth by the Joint Commission. In general, the Psychologist will serve as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team for the purpose of optimizing whole-person health and wellness, and will independently diagnose and treat behavioral health disorders and aspects of psychological adjustment. Specific to the Debra Simon Center, patients present with the full range of DSM diagnoses, and are often subject to compound stressors and comorbid medical conditions. The psychologist will be expected to participate in all phases of the outpatient process (outlined below). The specific scope of practice will be articulated in the delineation of privileges as issued in the process of appointment to the Medical Staff. The Psychiatry Department at HUMC offers focused, evidence-based treatments for their patients (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, etc.), and the hired psychologist is expected to play a significant role in facilitating this delivery, including training and supervising junior clinical staff in these approaches. The position will also involve the supervision and mentorship of psychology trainees as well as medical students; and taking on an active role in the development of psychology externship, internship and post-doctoral programs. A psychologist in this position has the potential for significant professional growth, as the Wellness Center develops treatment tracks to meet patient needs and creates programming to reduce patient hospitalizations.





Responsibilities



1. Core Responsibilities

  • Assumes the duties and responsibilities of a Psychologist as prescribed by training and standards, and as delineated by the medical staff appointment.
  • Functions as a consultant in the Department of Psychiatry in the areas of Behavioral Health and provides behavioral health consultations within the medical center.
  • Serves as a resource and liaison to other departments in the medical center and to community agencies seeking mental health information.
  • Participates in professional and community educational conferences and seminars as part of professional development.

2. Outpatient Process and Clinical Duties

  • Participates in all phases of the outpatient process, including:

    • Performing intake assessments.
    • Developing and updating treatment plans.
    • Providing empirically-based treatment in individual, family, and group modalities for outcome-oriented psychotherapy.
    • Working with families and community resources to provide patient support.
    • Supervising trainees and less experienced staff.
    • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
    • Attending disposition and other staff meetings.
  • Patient Evaluation:

    • Evaluates patients according to department policies/procedures and follows standards of practice for mental health disorders.
    • Conducts diagnostic evaluations and provides diagnoses from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), directly supported by evaluation findings.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in using and interpreting brief assessment tools and integrating them into diagnostic impressions.
  • Treatment and Effectiveness:

    • Provides effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals, couples, families, and groups, demonstrating effective skills and techniques.
    • Evaluates treatment effectiveness with periodic reassessment using outcome-driven data and modifies treatment accordingly.
    • Communicates and documents changes in treatment plans with the team, supervisor, and patient.
    • Clinical judgment and skills are monitored through team meetings, case presentations, supervision, and chart review.
  • Productivity:

    • Maintains productivity and adheres to treatment guidelines based on departmental standards.

3. Compliance and Professional Standards

  • Provides program services in accordance with HUMC policy and procedures, The Joint Commission, and the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational and Managerial Competencies.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

4. Other

  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
 



Qualifications



Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education & Training:

    • A doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) from an APA-accredited program in Clinical Psychology.
    • Completion of an APA-approved internship in Adult Clinical and/or Pediatric Psychology.
  • Experience & Skills:

    • A minimum of five years of related clinical experience serving patients across the mental health and work-related spectrum.
    • Proficiency in evidence-based treatments (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - ACT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy - DBT).
    • Experience providing clinical training and supervision, with a commitment to training the next generation of psychologists.
    • Sensitivity to multiculturalism and diversity.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Google Suite platforms.
  • Licenses and Certifications:

    • A valid Psychologist License.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education & Training:
    • Postdoctoral training and/or experience in Clinical Psychology.




Starting Minimum Rate



Minimum rate of $111,924.80 Annually

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
