    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Ensures system standardization of relevant policies/procedures, physician orders, care processes, and patient flow that reflect best practice to achieve effectiveness and efficiency.
    2. Provides formal and informal educational leadership opportunities for clinical staff with specific emphasis on patient care.
    3. Maintains knowledge of proper billing, coding and diagnosis requirements for proper reimbursement.
    4. Assists with monitoring, evaluation and interpretations of quality indicators and facilitate efficient use of health care resources.
    5. Manages the ongoing psychiatric needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations in an age appropriate manner by integrating advanced education, research, management, consultation and clinical role.
    6. Uses prescriptive authority, procedures and treatments, if appropriate, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations and institutional guidelines.
    7. Orders and interprets laboratory and other investigative studies as appropriate.
    8. Provides initial assessment, follow-up care and discharge summaries.
    9. Implements strategies to assess patient care needs and provide care throughout the continuum.
    10. Maintains clinical competency in specialty area and keep abreast of medical and pharmaceutical developments as it affects patient care.
    11. Participates in professional organizations pertinent to area of specialty.
    12. Practices according to professional and ethics standards.
    13. Demonstrates an understanding of and functions as a professional nurse in accordance with Wyoming State Nurse Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics.
    14. Delegates appropriately to other practice providers .
    15. Applies knowledge of the legal, ethical, and regulatory boundaries of health care including application of ANA Code of Ethics.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of psychiatric advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities
    • Knowledge of professional psychiatric nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care
    • Knowledge of psychiatric patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, compliance with care recommendations
    • Ability to diagnose and treat complex psychiatric problems, analyze data and develop a plan of care utilizing evidence based medicine
    • Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data
    • Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques
    • Knowledge of psychiatric community, professional, and educational resources
    • Utilize process improvement methodology to achieve goals and benchmarks
    • Ability to work with a team, communicate effectively with consultants and patients
    • Ability to communicate effectively with others
    • Exhibit a professional demeanor and interpersonal skills
    • Utilize basic project management methods, primarily action planning and tracking and reporting tools
    • Demonstrate knowledge of best practices for clinical care/support, patient flow and efficiency to select appropriate process targets for improvement initiatives
    Job Requirements:

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • Completion of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program.
    • In the state of Wyoming, as regulated by Wyoming State Board of Nursing under the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules and Regulations defined below:
      • The APRN is subject at all times the standards and scope of practice established by national professional organizations and/or accrediting agencies representing the various core, role and population focus areas for APRNs, and the NPA.
      • The Board recognizes APRN core, role and population focus areas described in the scope of practice statements for APRNs issued by national professional organizations and/or accrediting agencies.
      • Role and population focus of the APRN shall be declared, and the role and population focus to be utilized shall be the title(s) granted by nationally recognized professional organizations(s) and/or accrediting agency(ies) or the title(s) of the role and population focus of nursing practice in the which the APRN has received postgraduate education preparation.
      • In order to practice in one of the four roles and in a defined population, the APRN shall be recognized by the Board in that particular role with a population focus of advanced practice nursing.
    • Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse licensure in the State of Wyoming
    • Certification in specialty area required - psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP).
    • Strong physician and hospital relations experience
    • Cheyenne Regional RQI within 14 calendar days of start date
    • Controlled Substance Licensure from the Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy
    • Federal DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) licensure
    • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in healthcare
