    Description
    Job Summary:

    Performs functional testing, preventive maintenance, calibration, and repair of basic biomedical instrumentation throughout the hospital. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

    Primary Duties:

    1. Performs routine scheduled preventive maintenance and functional verification of basic biomedical equipment, including IV infusion and feeding pumps, suction pumps, hypo/hyperthermia equipment, electronic thermometers, patient scales, infant warmers and incubators, and other basic laboratory equipment, and other equipment not requiring a detailed knowledge of electronics.
    2. Performs inspection and performance verification of the incoming/new class of equipment described above, prior to clinical use and performs needed corrective maintenance and calibration of equipment as required, responding to telephone or direct requests for service from equipment users.
    3. Accurately and completely documents result of all maintenance, inspections and other activities performed, according to department's policies and procedures.
    4. Instructs clinical users in proper operation, safety and routine care of biomedical instrumentation.
    5. Assists Biomedical Equipment Specialist II and Biomedical Engineering Imaging Specialist with specific repairs or projects as knowledge and skills permit.
    6. Interacts and communicates effectively with supervisors, other department staff, clinical users, vendors and outside technical support and service representatives.
    7. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all inclusive.
    Qualifications:
    • Vocational/Technical Diploma in electronics technology, or extensive high school electronics background combined with previous work experience required or
    • On-the-Job Training Military electronics training and applicable work experience, either in the military or follow-on employment required.
    • 1-2 years at least 2 years of work experience performing the functions described required.
    • Hospital experience is not mandatory if the applicant has worked in the electronics or technology field, performing similar technical work to that described preferred.
    • Certified Biomedical Technician (CBET)-AAMI AAMI BMET Certification preferred and
    • Factory training on specific types of equipment to be maintained is also desirable, as applicable to GUH preferred.
