    Director of Psychiatric Providers collaborates with an integrated team of Medical Providers, Peers, and Behavioral Health Providers to increase mental health access and comprehensive care in a rural community. Ensure the delivery of the highest-quality psychiatric care/consultation and medication-assisted treatment in our integrated outpatient clinics and hospital while strategically and sustainably cultivating a team of psychiatric providers to meet our community's needs. This position will primarily be in our clinic setting but also provide treatment in the Emergency Department and other hospital units.
    • Provide compassionate, caring, and skillful psychiatric care in outpatient and hospital settings. Assess, diagnose, and treat mental and physical aspects of psychological problems for patients seeking psychiatric and substance abuse help. Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results for patients with mental health and substance abuse diagnoses.
    • Support patients in our outpatient clinics and at the hospital through provider consultations and patient sessions PRN.
    • Work closely with primary care providers, administrators, behavioral health providers, peers, and other stakeholders to foster strong interdisciplinary collaboration built on professionalism, respect, and integrity.
    • Develop effective referral processes and communication channels between psychiatric providers and primary care/ED/hospital inpatient teams.
    • Collaborate with clinic leadership and the Behavioral Health Program Director to develop and implement strategies for integrating psychiatric services into primary care clinics. Identify opportunities for sustainable program expansion and improvement based on patient needs, market trends, and best practices.
    • Role model exceptional communication, humility, guidance, and a collaborative attitude at all times for patients, partners, and our teams. With time and responsible growth, provide strategic direction and leadership to a team of psychiatric providers, ensuring their professional growth, development, retention, and service excellence.
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes excellence in patient care through the highest levels of psychological safety.
    • Communicate with skill and kindness to effectively coach, mentor, and develop direct reports to maximize their performance, engagement, and retention.
    • Establish quality assurance measures to monitor the performance of psychiatric providers, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction while nurturing a growth mindset with your team.
    • Lead the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention efforts for psychiatric providers across multiple clinic locations. Ensure that providers have the necessary resources, training, support, and supervision to deliver the highest-quality care.
    • Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations for psychiatric providers based on established metrics and goals.
    • Consistently provide brain-friendly performance and praise feedback, coaching, and mentorship to support professional growth while addressing performance concerns promptly and with skillful kindness.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, licensing requirements, privacy standards, and ethical guidelines related to psychiatric services in primary care/hospital settings.
    Knowledge of:
    • Laws and regulations governing Physician Assistants to include: regulations, and ethical standards governing behavioral health treatment and medical records, laws on domestic violence, child and elder abuse, and neglect. Current laws and regulations around supervising psychiatric providers including best practices, professional ethics, guidance, and demonstrated capacity to effectively coach, mentor, and nurture motivation and results.
    • Causes and treatment of mental and emotional illness including environmental, sociological, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders. Principles and methods of psychiatry including diagnostic and treatment techniques used in practicing psychiatry. Advanced principles and practices of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment, documentation and follow-up of emotional and mental disorders and other related medical issues.
    • Scope of responsibilities applicable under incumbent's licensure.
    • Psycho-education methodologies to work with individuals one-on-one or in groups. Psychopharmacological use and effects of medications including medication and drugs commonly prescribed, including medications therapeutic effect, side effects, reactions, and contraindications.
    • Diagnostic protocols; sterile techniques and infection control; clinical significance of laboratory test results.
    Requirements
    • Current PA-C Certification with NCCPA.
    • Three to five years of experience as a Physician Assistant with demonstrated ability to provide
    • the full scope of care for psychiatric patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting, with limited supervision.
    • Current BLS certification required upon hire and maintained through RQI process.
    • Prescriptive authority as demonstrated by DEA License.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced clinic environment.
    • Proficient in technologies to include personal computer, Athena EMR, Outlook email and descriptive dictation for coding & billing purposes. Must also have effective organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate notes and records.
    • Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of patient, patient account, and personnel data.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and work with physicians, patients, patient families, staff and management.
    PA Licensure Requirements:
    • Collaborative Agreement with Physician.
    • Provider agreement.
    • Performance assessment sheet.
    • Yearly review of 5% of charts.
    • Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
    • Board certified with active Colorado Physician Assistant License.
    • Active Colorado DEA Licensure.
