Applegreen is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our Retail Procurement Team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of retail commercial, including managing a team of 5 buyers based in our Lexington, SC and Glen Rock, NJ offices and developing strategies to maximize profitability while ensuring compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail and merchandising, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of success in managing buying/procurement teams.

The Candidate we seek should possess the following:

• Manage and mentor a team of retail buyers, providing guidance on buying execution, contract negotiation, product assortment and promotional campaigns
• Provide strong leadership and direction to the retail buying, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
• Shape and deliver the short, medium and long-term sales plan through the leadership of the buying team, utilizing raw data and influencing over the wider business
• Develop and execute buying strategies
• Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors to facilitate effective communication, collaboration, and partnership. Negotiate contracts, terms, pricing agreements to secure favorable terms and conditions for the organization such as cost-saving initiatives, value added opportunities, volume discounts and other concessions.
• Create and manage the retail promotional calendar, being aware of the competition in the market and key retail promotions and events to optimize sales
• Ensure that all relevant stakeholders have accurate data which can directly, proactively and consistently inform decisions relating to maximizing profitability and contributing to overall business strategy and growth
• Provide insight into the market and competitors, understanding the gaps, insight into price competitiveness and offerings
• Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including senior management to provide updates on buying-related activities and performance

The candidate we seek will be responsible for:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in retail buying, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role
• Proven track record of success in managing buying teams and optimizing trading performance.
• Strong understanding of financial markets and buying strategies
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions
• Proficiency in retail buying platforms, order management systems, and analytics tools
• Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members
• Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision in buying execution and risk management
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
• Ability to travel to and work from the Glen Rock, NJ office 1 week a month
