- Manage the project estimation process and be responsible for timely delivery of estimates to sales groups within the company.
- Support project sales during proposal stage by reviewing bid documents, RFPs, preliminary project information, and site characteristics.
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
- Prepare estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work.
- Participate in bid strategy and presentation meetings as requested.
- Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price.
- Coordinate the entire estimating process from concept through project award and create Bill of Materials for project cost and construction.
- Review and incorporate historical data from past projects, subcontractor costs, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures.
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures.
- Develop cost reduction processes and material usage methods to reduce cost of goods while maintaining quality.
- Develop knowledge of best material suppliers to stay abreast of pricing and other opportunities to provide better value to customers.
- Bachelor's degree in business management or related programs
- 3+ years of electrical estimating experience, in solar or high voltage projects preferred
- Must have hands on knowledge of principles of estimating including budgeting, tracking, change orders for PV solar projects. Experience with battery storage preferred
- Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, plus the ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems is essential
- Intimate knowledge of construction activities, production rates, equipment selection, building types and construction methods
- Must have the ability to prepare complex proposals with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification will be a plus
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated organization and analytical skills and the ability to diagnose and analyze problems and drive appropriate solutions.
- Ability to handle multiple projects in an organized and accurate manner
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen
- Sit at a desk 6-8 hours per day performing tasks on a computer
- Requires periods of walking, standing with some light lifting of files
- Minimal bending, stooping or reaching
- Primarily office setting with no extreme temperature variations
- Requiring normal safety precautions with minimal occupational health and safety risks
- Moderate to low noise levels
- Requires considerable concentration
- Stresses induced by changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines
