    Strategic Intent

    It is the mission and intent that the Assistant Director of HR will provide support and guidance in all areas of HR disciplines (associate relations, benefit administration, recruitment and employment, training, etc.) to the entire associate population of the hotel.

    Organizational Structure

    The Assistant Director of HR reports to the Director of Human Resources and provides collaborative supervision and direction to the HR Coordinator from time-to-time.

    General Duties and Responsibilities
    • Assist with facilitation of new associate and open enrollment of benefits.
    • Terminate benefits when colleagues leave the hotel and assist with cobra enrolment as necessary.
    • Administrative maintenance of HRIS system.
    • Assist with the administration, monitor and follow-up on all Leaves of Absence, including FMLA and Workers Compensation.
    • Assist in the company's efforts to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, including, but not limited to Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), District of Columbia Family Leave Act (DCFLA), etc.
    • Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor reflective of The Watergate Hotel.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times in all matters pertaining to associates, vendors and contractors of the hotel.
    • Manage flow of the office by greeting associates, applicants and visitors and assisting them in a timely and friendly manner.
    • Work closely with HR Team to facilitate associates activities to include monthly birthday celebration, recognized holidays, special events and community activities.
    • Assist colleagues with inquires related to personal days, sick days, vacation requests, direct deposits and other related forms.
    • Handle all unemployment claims within the designated timeframe; provide all documentation to HR Director as requested.
    • Assist with employment and recruitment efforts including posting of open positions, conducting interviews and scheduling candidates with managers as directed.
    • Assist with pre-employment procedures (background checks, drug screens, etc.).
    • Schedule new associates for new hire paperwork, uniform fittings, etc. as needed.
    • Assist with associate relations including routine communications, disciplines, performance evaluations, special events, etc.
    • Assist with various assigned training initiatives and provide tracking.
    • Assist with file maintenance as assigned.
    • Coordinate and assist with J-1 MIT programs.
    • All other reasonable projects and duties as assigned.
    • Experience and Requirements
    • Must possess 2+ years of Human Resources supervisor or manager experience. Those with luxury hotel experience will be strongly preferred.
    • Prior experience with basic HR functions in various disciplines within HR such as recruitment, employment, benefits, compliance, associate relations and training is required.
    • Basic knowledge and/or familiarity with Federal and State employee benefit laws involving employee benefits (Such as COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, DCFLA, etc.) is required.
    • Must possess ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment; strong detail focus and organizational skills are required.
    • Computer proficiency is required to include MS Office, Word, Power Point, Excel; prior experience with HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems are all required.
    • Basic payroll and benefit administration knowledge is required.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills are required; must be fluent in English; bi-lingual Spanish/English is preferred.
    • Able to present themselves with an uplifting personality as well as presenting a high degree of confidentiality at all times.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accomplish all business goals and directives.
    • Bachelor's Degree is required; significant direct, related work experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
