The Department of Population Health, Food Animal Health and Management Program, College of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Georgia invites applicants for a clinical or tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level in food animal production and preventive medicine. This position will be based at the UGA Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory (TVDIL) campus in Tifton, Georgia.

Responsibilities include teaching, providing food animal clinical services, scholarly activity, and outreach to livestock producers, as well as practicing veterinarians. Although the focus of this position is beef cattle, this position may also serve small ruminant and equine clients. An interest in advanced reproductive technology would be welcome, as there is equipment and a laboratory dedicated to embryo collection/transfer and on-site donor housing. There is a well-appointed haul-in facility for treating animals onsite. The service provided to clients closely models rural large animal practice in Georgia.
Rank, salary, and terms of appointment will be dependent upon qualifications and experience of the applicant.

The minimum qualifications: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent from an accredited college/school of veterinary medicine, expertise and training in food animal veterinary medicine, and eligibility to obtain a veterinary license in the state of Georgia.

Masters or PhD in a veterinary medical biosciences related field preferred, especially those with an emphasis on livestock health and management and/or advanced reproductive technologies. Work history in one or more of the following areas is preferred: livestock nutrition; forage management; food safety; production economics; theriogenology; large animal internal medicine; epidemiology and preventive health management. Ability to obtain a veterinary license in Georgia. Board certification in any of the following AVMA recognized specialties is desirable: Internal Medicine (Large Animal); ABVP (Food Animal); Theriogenology; Toxicology; Nutrition; or Preventive Medicine.

The successful candidate will teach veterinary students and postgraduate veterinarians and collaborate with faculty in production and clinical medicine. The duties of this position focus primarily on building upon the teaching and service missions of the Food Animal Health and Management Program by working with existing faculty members to provide didactic and on-farm clinical experiences for veterinary students, as well as developing and contributing to continuing education for referring veterinarians and extension programs for producers in the livestock industry. The brand new and state-of-the-art livestock haul-in facility on the campus of the TVDIL allows for the provision of a wider array of health services to rural producers. The facility is designed to facilitate the offering of specialized reproductive management services for large and small ruminants (embryo transfer, in vitro fertilization, laparoscopic artificial insemination, etc.), bovine foot care and lameness evaluation, and routine clinical services (breeding soundness examinations, dehorning, clinical examination, etc.). This position will also work closely with TVDIL faculty to assist with client services and outreach at the TVDIL and provide consultations on non-poultry food animal submissions.
