    Commercial Banking teams build lasting relationships with business owners and executives throughout the country to help them realize their ambitions.

    adding new strategic relationships, building and deepening existing relationships, and increasing referral activity across all lines of business.

    Group Portfolio Manager primary responsibilities are to ensure objectives related to internal portfolio management are met, and that other front line (1A) risk management activities are executed in a manner consistent with CIBC's risk culture.

    This position could eventually manage and oversee the workflow of Commercial PMs and/ or Credit Associates and provide approval within established guidelines for daily credit and portfolio administrative activity.

    Group Portfolio Managers report to the Group Head.

    This particular Role is solely for the dedicated Specialized Healthcare Lending Group and will require prior healthcare credit experience – preferably within the Skilled Nursing / Assisted Living and Senior Housing sector.

    How you'll succeed


    • Drive consistent execution – Cover a specified lending group(Healthcare), responsible for consistent execution of portfolio management and other risk management requirements, and focused day-to-day on client level activities. Advise on deal structure and other client requests, with a focus on applicable policy standards and procedures, and provide direct oversight and direction to any PMs and / or Associates engaged in underwriting, credit approval and loan closing activities. Provide on the job coaching and training relative to these matters. Manage workflow and maintain an accurate pipeline of all opportunities, ensuring visibility to support teams. Support efforts of team members to ensure onboarding / closing client experience is optimized by acting as the escalation point to resolve issues.

    • Develop strong cross-department relationships – Serve as your respective group's primary point of contact with Commercial Bank leadership including your HPA, the (1B) risk management function, various second line of defense functions (e.g. Credit Risk Management, Loan Services, etc.), and third line of defense (e.g. Credit Review). Act as the group's representative in portfolio reviews and similar meetings with these stakeholders.

    • Monitor risks within established frameworks – Expected to engage with RMs, PMs and Associates strategically to help address issues or roadblocks, and to ensure timely and proper execution of all portfolio management activities within their areas of coverage

    This includes:

    i) supporting the group in prescreen discussions, ii) reviewing all loan presentations for accuracy and completeness prior to submission, ii) ensuring annual reviews, renewals, and reporting are timely and risk ratings are accurate, iii) monitoring pricing reports, loan document exceptions and other loan system ticklers to confirm proper portfolio maintenance occurs, iv) overseeing group preparations for criticized asset and other portfolio review meetings, v) signing off on quarterly SOX controls and similar attestations, and vi) properly identifying / managing / and escalating past dues and other issues to the HPA, (1B) risk management function, and Credit Risk Management.

    • You can demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience in underwriting, structuring, loan closing, documentation, and portfolio management. Additionally, you can prove credit expertise within a specific commercial banking industry or vertical – Healthcare required and Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, Senior Housing preferred. You have an ability to foster and maintain commercial relationships with high level of competency and know how to identify risk within credit requests. It's an asset if you completed a Commercial Banking Training Program or equivalent.
