    Description

    Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Primary Care Physician (PCP) shall provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population.

    Patients care shall be provided consistent with education, training, and nationally recognized standards/guidelines. Provide clinical supervision to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.

    Additionally, the PCP may be asked to assist the Medical Director in development of medical policies and guidelines to assure consistent care to patients.

    Actively participate in applicable Federally Qualified Health Center program requirements.

    Essential FunctionsAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following:
    Assess health status of patients consistent with education and training, through appropriate health history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests.

    Provide care for acute/chronic medical illness and preventative services in accordance with national recognized standardsPerform proper referral to specialists as deemed necessaryProvide clinical supervision and consultation to nurse practitioners and physician assistants as assignedProvide leadership of the medical team which they are assigned(RN/LPN/medical assistants)Work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary providersMay provide supervision and preceptorship to students and residentsAssist the Medical Director in updating medical policies and guidelines in accordance to national standards.

    Expected to participate in quality improvement, compliance and incentive programsParticipate in peer review as assigned by the Medical DirectorParticipate in committees as assigned by the Medical DirectorAppropriate documentation, timely completion of billing and submission through the Electronic Health Record system for all clinical careMandatory internal education as assigned.

    Participate in assigned Ingham County Health Department functionsOther duties as assignedOther Functions:
    Performs other duties as assigned.
    Must adhere to departmental standards in regard to HIPAA and other privacy issues.
    During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform duties similar to, but not limited, to those in his/her job description.(An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the above tasks. These examples donot include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)

    Employment QualificationsEducation:
    Graduation from an accredited school of medicinePost-Graduate: Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited residency programExperience: One year of post full licensure experience in the practice of medicine or osteopathic medicine is preferred but completion and submission of appropriate residency training may be substituted

    Credentialing:
    The provider will be Board Eligible or Board Certified (Recommend) in appropriate specialty. Board Eligible individuals are expected to complete Board Certification within 2 years of employment. Maintenance of certification is required.


    Other Requirements:
    Applicant should have an unrestricted license to practice medicine/osteopathic medicine in the state of Michigan.
    Compliance with continuing medical education as directed by both state and accrediting agencies(The qualifications listed above are intended to represent the minimum skills and experience levels associated with performing the duties and responsibilities contained in this job description.     Requirements and Working ConditionsWorking Conditions:
    This position works in an indoor environment. There is no planned exposure to prominent lights, noises, odors, temperatures or weather conditions. This position is exposed to communicable diseases, blood, other body fluids, etc.
    This position is exposed to individuals in crisis.

    These individuals may suffer from mental or emotional illness, have violent tendencies or be unconcerned with their personal safety and hygiene.

    This position is required to travel for meetings and appointments. Some appointments may be held at personal residences where levels of cleanliness and safety vary.


    Physical Requirements:

    This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop/crouch, squat, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, grasp, handle, pinch, type, endure repetitive movements of the wrists, hands or fingers.

    This position's physical requirements require periodic stamina in sitting, twisting, bending, stooping/crouching, and squatting,This position's physical requirements require regular stamina in lifting, carrying, pushing and pullingThis position's physical requirements require continuous stamina in standing, walking, reaching, grasping, handling, pinching, typing and enduring repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and fingersThis position performs light work requiring the ability to exert 20 pounds or less of force in the physical requirements above.

    This position primarily requires close visual acuity to perform tasks within arm's reach such as:
    viewing a computer screen, using measurement devices, inspecting and assembling parts, etc. This position requires the ability to communicate and respond to inquiries both in person and over the phone.
    This position requires the ability to operate a PC/laptop and to enter & retrieve information from a computer.
    This position requires the ability to handle varying and often high levels of stress.(This job requires the ability to perform the essential functions contained in this description.
