    Position Summary
    The Thompson Learning Community (TLC) is designed to promote the academic success of UNO students receiving the Susan T. Buffett Scholarship.
    TLC provides William H.

    Thompson Scholars a sequence of common courses, academic enhancement activities, academic and personal advisement, and opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and peers to create an inclusive, welcoming environment.

    The
    TLC Office is a dynamic area with a great deal of student interaction. The
    TLC Specialist will serve as an academic and personal resource to William H. Thompson Scholars at UNO focused on helping scholars master concepts/skills necessary to successfully complete university requirements.


    Specialists in
    TLC enhance the academic and personal development of students by advising primarily first- and second-year students, however, Specialists also provide support to any William H.

    Thompson Scholar (and may support non-WHT Scholars through indirect and direct engagement with students and campus offices) in need of assistance navigating academic/administrative and personal obstacles to college completion.


    The Specialists' day-to-day duties will include teaching college-ready courses and career/professionalism, overseeing programmatic aspects of the first-, and second-year experience, and supporting any students who request support.

    Specialists will also engage in consultation with faculty regarding student support, maintain databases that support the program, and serve on assigned university committees and other related projects.

    Required and Preferred Qualifications


    Required Education
    Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, or related field.


    Required Experience
    Student advisement experience to include teaching and/or workshop facilitation experience. Experience working with college students in a university environment.
