    Job Description
    • Provides visitors with accurate and concise information regarding the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area natural and cultural history, resource sensitivity, trail locations and conditions, park rules and regulations, and overall orientation.
    • Leads and assists with staff or volunteer-led interpretive programs and presentations.
    • Assists with various special projects/events on behalf of the Bureau of Land management and Southern Nevada Conservancy.
    • Partners with schools/teachers, home-school networks, special groups, etc. to develop field trip opportunities that are aligned with curriculum, mission or objectives.
    • Oversees and assists with the preparation of instructional materials relative to the authentic/hands-on activities as needed.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    • Knowledge of regional natural and cultural history preferred.
    • Strong professional commitment to the position.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the general public.
    • Ability to stimulate interest and lead people in various interpretive activities.
    • Ability to effectively communicate Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area rules to visitors to minimize damage to trails, formations, and other sensitive areas.
    • Ability to use various computer programs, including word processing, databases, and desktop publishing software; Microsoft Office proficiency preferred.
    • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

    Licenses/Certificates:

    Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

    Pre-Employment Requirements:

    Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, Federal background check, and motor vehicle record check.

    Work Conditions

    Duties are performed mainly outside in the field in various weather conditions; some travel required. Field work may involve transverse/negotiating developed terrain/trails and undeveloped, rugged terrain. Requires physical effort to perform frequent lifting, bending and climbing; must be able to safely lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds. This is a full-time position regularly working up to 40+ hours per week.

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor's degree is required in appropriate fields, i.e. biology, environmental science, etc. Master's degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.

    • Good organizational skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Demonstrated experience in teaching children and adults in formal and informal settings, indoors and outdoors.
    • Ability to effectively use environmental education materials and equipment.
    • Must have flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
    • Computer skills especially in Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.

    The work environment encountered with this position is a combination of both indoor environments consistent with working in an office, meeting/classroom and in outdoor interpretation. This would include activities in hot, cold, wet, rainy, snowy and other forms of inclement weather conditions. It also includes traveling to schools or other off-site facilities in which we are offering programs.

    Hours

    This position has an anticipated work schedule from Tuesday thru Saturday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is Exempt.
