Signal Crew Member

Traffic Operations Supervisor
SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Traffic Operations Supervisor and Senior Signal Technician, assists in the construction, installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signal devices (signals, school flashers, etc.) and related equipment in accordance with the City policies and the Texas manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD).
Work requires close supervision.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists in the installation and repair of traffic signals, school zone flashers, and City-owned and maintained street lighting including but not limited to: installation of above and below ground conduit; installation and termination of signal and detector conductors; installation of poles, mast arms, and foundations; installation of loops, installation of traffic signal control cabinets; and all traffic signal related equipment.
Learns to program traffic signal and school flasher related electronic equipment.
Operates and maintains equipment necessary for repair and installation of signals
Checks daily on construction trucks and equipment to ensure they are properly fueled and maintained.
Ensures vehicles are stocked with chemicals, tools, materials, and/or other applicable items.
Pulls trailers to and from job sites.
Sets up safety barricades and traffic transitions for the protection of personnel, equipment and motorists.
Sets up detours for work sites, special events and emergency situations; maintains all permanent barricades.
Participates in/on a variety of meetings, committees, and/or other applicable groups to receive and/or convey information.
Install/assist in the installation of traffic signs and pavement markings as needed.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic construction principles
Skilled in operating applicable tools and equipment of the trade
Skilled in performing routine repair and maintenance activities
Skilled in performing basic construction activities
Skilled in performing manual labor
Skilled in observing safety rules and regulations
Skilled in operating a computer and related software applications
Skilled in communicating effectively with a variety of individuals
Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Six months of related maintenance and/or construction experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
PREFERENCES:
Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and schematics
Class A Commercial Driver's License
Work Zone Safety Certification
IMSA Signals Level I Certification
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent climbing, balancing, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, seeing, hearing, driving and manual dexterity.
Occasional lifting and carrying of over 100 pounds.
Work is typically performed in outdoor environments, with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Work is performed in high and precarious places and near moving mechanical parts.
Potential exposure to risk of electrical shock, vibration, fumes and airborne particles.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver license.
Must pass pre-employment drug test.
Must pass criminal history check.
Must pass motor vehicle records check.
Class A Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of employment
Work Zone Safety Certification within 1 year of employment
IMSA Signals Level I Certification within 1 year of employment
