The Manager of Volunteers plans, manages and implements the Zoo's Volunteer Program’s overall strategic goals and objectives. They develop and implement strategic plans to increase the overall visibility of the Volunteer Program throughout local community.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of Birmingham Zoo Volunteer Services including volunteer staff adult volunteer program teen volunteer program paid internship program coordinate elements volunteer paid internship program development facilitation long-term planning goal setting annual budget marketing recruitment strategy execution interviews pre-onboarding onboarding continuing training disciplinary probationary actions dismissals retention planning maintenance recognition planning events recruitment group corporate volunteers annual special events creation maintenance monitoring distribution supplies needed overite online volunteer database regular communication volunteers ensuring knowledge Zoo current event news announcements updates happenings monitor distribute evaluate update Volunteer Services policies procedures SOPs job descriptions partnerships develop maintain adherence above collaborate departments establish goals volunteers work closely departments obtain goals volunteers work closely departments any volunteer issues receive feedback departments re: volunteer activities develop maintain volunteer training manual handbook build maintain community partnerships Boost community awareness Zoo’s voluntary opportunities increase college community awareness Zoo’s paid internships participate activities presentations increase voluntary recruitment retention participation year year Build maintain local association-wide networking share receive information ideas management techniques promotion methods stay date best practices zoo aquarium Be aware local regional national international conversations within zoos aquariums oversees full-time part-time seasonal team members hire supervise evaluate direct reports provide employee support training evaluation coaching counseling progressive discipline activities work proactively advance team spirit positive work climate monitor staff morale take appropriate action resolve issues administrative paperwork needed directed Other duties assigned
