    By joining our Division of Highway Design, Quality Assurance Branch as a Transportation Engineer Specialist inFranklin County, you'll have the opportunity to review, analyze, and perform intermediately complex engineeringactivities and work to obtain and develop professional engineering techniques.

    Holders of the Transportation Engineer Specialist position will complete tasks such as:
  • Coordinates activities and provides technical expertise for project teams in complex safety performanceevaluations, value engineering studies, and post construction reviews.
  • Interprets, writes, and recommends complex reports, correspondence, and technical papers.
  • Coordinates activities of quality assurance measures and provides expert technical assistance toconstruction professionals in the interpretation of plans, specifications, policies, and procedures asestablished by the Division of Highway Design.
  • Coordinates with agencies such as Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), other state agencies, and other KYTC Divisions on various QualityAssurance Programs
  • Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and through writing.
  • Understanding of the project development process.
  • Excellent writing skills through emails and technical documents.
  • Knowledgeable of the KYTC software and programs
  • Desired candidates should possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Required to understand the policies and procedures for highway project development.
  • Required to be able to prepare, assemble, and present materials to various audiences.

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.
