    Summary Description:


    Provide safety analysis support (radiological) for the preparation, review and/or recommendation for approval of safety analysis documents associated with design, construction, startup, and operation of enriched uranium processing and support operations.

    Participate in team evaluations and support preparation of safety basis documentation for new and/or modified plant processes, systems and components, including items relied on for safety (IROFS) and safety related equipment (SRE).

    Interface with regulatory agencies regarding 10 CRF 70, Subpart H, issues including integrated safety analysis (ISA), safety basis documentation, IROFS, and management measures.


    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Participate in ISA teams that use process hazard analysis methods to identify potential accident scenarios and safety controls.
    • Support or perform accident consequence analyses, including identification of source terms and safety hazards.
    • Develop and/or use computer models and other calculation methods to support the performance of accident consequence analyses and dose/exposure consequence determinations.
    • Prepare risk analysis for review using established NFS methods, and review the IROFS selected to prevent or mitigate potential accident scenarios.
    • Support the development of safety analysis reports and safety basis documentation for new and modified processes, systems, and components.
    • Review work requests, procedures, and drawings detailing proposed process changes and determine affects to the safety basis.
    • Assist with/conduct field design verification; hazard analysis walkdowns; and periodic inspections/audits/assessments.
    • Assist with or perform technical/independent reviewer responsibilities in accordance with applicable program documents and procedures.
    • Support preparation and/or revision of ISA summary documents.
    • Participate in failure investigations for failed/degraded IROFS and management measures.
    • Assist with responses to regulatory requests in defense of safety basis documentation.

    Educational Requirements:
    B.S. Degree in Science, Engineering or technical discipline.


    Experience Requirements:

    • Three to five years' experience is required.
    • Experience in safety analysis is required to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations, requirements, and analyses.
    • Post-graduate studies may substitute for some work experience.
