    Boston's Higher Ground, Inc. seeks a Director of Programs & Operations Role of the Director of Programs & Operations Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs & Operations will have both internal and external facing responsibilities. Internal responsibilities will include finance and operations including human resources, facilities, and IT. Through the leadership and management of key organizational programs, the Director of Programs & Operations will work internally managing Higher Ground staff as well as externally with partners organizations, schools, and resident families. The Director of Programs & Operations will support the Executive Director on financial management as well as data & evaluation of organizational programs. Specific Responsibilities Program Management & Partnerships:

    • Lead the oversight and management of Higher Ground's programs to support children and families.
    • Oversee program budgets including revenue and expenses. Work with program partners on budget reconciliation.
    • Manage, develop, hire (as needed) and retain a team of high performing staff providing direct coordination and management.
    • Serve as the key facilitator and organizer for all partner organizations associated with the programs and collective impact initiatives. Finance & Operations:
    • Oversight and management of human resources including hiring, staff performance evaluation, and training.
    • Provide support of program-related financial management, budgeting, and control practices with the support of external financial management vendor.
    • Oversight and management of facilities and information technology services.
    • Recommend and implement improvements to administrative and program operations. Additional Responsibilities
    • Support as needed in the areas of fundraising, marketing, and various Higher Ground programs as needed, through thought partnership and peer support.
    • Provide reports and general support to the Board of Directors and board committees. Required Qualifications
    • Strong demonstrated commitment to equity, community empowerment and capacity building.
    • Strong, demonstrated commitment to the concept of place-based community initiatives and, in general, and to Higher Ground's vision and theory of change, in particular.
    • At least 3 years of experience at the manager level of a nonprofit organization, school, or similar environment, including experience working directly with Executive Directors or CEOs.
    • Demonstrated experience and success in supporting the fiscal management of a mission-driven organization.
    • Experience in grassroots organizing and a knowledge of building and sustaining trust.
    • Proficiency in program evaluation and data management software (Salesforce, ETO, etc.). Preferred Qualifications
    • Resident of Roxbury, Dorchester, or Mattapan and/or candidate reflects diversity of Higher Ground's impact area.
    • Demonstrated experience and success in building and managing coalitions/collaborations among multiple, mission-based organizations.
    • Excellent public speaking and writing skills; proficient in compellingly articulating the mission, values, vision and impact of Higher Ground.
    • Demonstrated experience growing non-profit programs.
    • Enjoys high visibility in the community before, during and after work hours.
    • Is a service-oriented leader with the ability to inspire others, collaborate, develop staff and support the needs of multiple cultures.
    • Has a good sense of management level balance, i.e., the balance between funding and mission – is entrepreneurial and innovative, yet organized, disciplined and fiscally astute.
    • Is well networked in Boston communities, organizations and cultures.
    • Is an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, a good sense of humor and a healthy tolerance for ambiguity. Education and/or Experience A BA/BS degree in a field relevant to the principal domains of Higher Ground's theory of change and/or an area of expertise otherwise required to support Higher Ground's work. Language Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write and edit reports, correspondence, and presentations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public verbally and in writing. Meeting facilitation and public speaking skills needed. Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole language skills preferred. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables. Work Environment This position can be either full time in-person at our Roxbury offices, or a hybrid of in-person and remote as dictated by role responsibilities. In-person attendance is required at specific meetings, events, and staff gatherings. CORI and SORI check required. Compensation $85,000 – $100,000 gross including benefits package (health, dental, short and long-term disability).
