- Illinois Professional Educator License with the School Nurse endorsement
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Knowledge of the ethical and legal expectations set forth in the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and all Governing Agencies.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Vision and Hearing certified.
- Knowledge of Bloodborne Pathogen Policy and Procedures.
- Recent experience as a registered nurse
- Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; lead, guide, and/or coordinate others; perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; ability to assess emergency situations and act accordingly; handling hazardous materials/waste; operating equipment used in clinical setting; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

General Description:
- Assists Director of Health Services, school health committee and administrators in developing and implementing school health program following the guidelines of the Illinois School Code, Illinois Department of Public Health, and the District policies.
- Participates in work of health curriculum committee.
- Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing as directed by Director of Health Services.
- Provides direct services to students, using the nursing process to provide care to the school community in accordance with current medical practice and nursing standards, relevant statutes, and regulations.
- Provides up-to-date information for use of school personnel on such subjects as the growth and development pattern of children, first aid practice, accident prevention, communicable disease regulations. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Acts as a liaison between home and school by communicating with parents regarding students' health and safety needs and developing plans to meet those needs at school.
- Reports to school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters, as directed by Director of Health Services.
- Implements Board policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team that identifies, evaluates and places students in special education programs
- Completes and presents health histories as part of case study evaluations.
- Writes health components of the Individual Education Plan.
- Recommends modifications in the school program for students who require accommodations because of health concerns.
- Develops and maintains healthcare plans for students who need special nursing interventions during the school day.
- Participates in assessing writing and implementing behavior plans.
- Ensures that reports required by the school district; Illinois Department of Public Health, and Illinois State Board of Education are properly prepared and submitted.
- Participates in in-service training programs.
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION: Per Teacher Salary Schedule based on education and experience. District grants experience credit on the salary schedule for up to 10 years of prior, verifiable, contractual full-time teaching experience.
