    Summary About the Position:

    Serve as a Data Scientist providing professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of data collection, data management, data analysis, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques.

    Responsibilities Responsible for performing research, analysis, and model development projects on data requirements and architecture. Develops and recommend new methodologies to fuse data sources derived from requirements and systems.

    Analyze complex data elements and systems, data flows, dependencies, and relationships in order to contribute to conceptual physical and logical data models.

    Assess data sources to determine the types of data available and how to import data into system sand models to reduce or eliminate manual reporting or processing requirements.

    Participate in the planning and implementation of methods, models, and tools and partners with other analysts to identify opportunities for significant process enhancements and recommend changes.

    Basic Requirement for Data Scientist:
    A


    Degree:
    Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

    The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

    Combination of Education and Experience:

    Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:


    Specialized Experience:

    One year of specialized experience which includes performing research and/or analysis to contribute to physical data models; extracting relevant information from datasets to aid in decision-making for an organization; partnering with other data analysts to identify opportunities to improve processes; and using programming language and tools to identify ways to improve data reliability.

    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11)
