This role is ideal for individuals who are skilled communicators, enjoy helping others, and thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. As the first point of contact for many parents and caregivers, the Screener plays a key role in connecting families with the information, support, and resources they need.

The Human Services Screener is a specialized clerical position that supports the child support program by assisting customers with applications, explaining program requirements, gathering and verifying information, initiating cases in the statewide system, and making referrals as needed. Strong attention to detail and knowledge of modern office practices are essential.

In addition to direct customer interaction, the Screener provides essential support to Human Services Specialists, including responding to phone calls, assisting with the processing of case documents and mail, and offering general program support as needed. The role also participates in community outreach activities to help broaden awareness and understanding of Child Support Services throughout Nevada and Sierra Counties.

• Explain policies, procedures, and requirements to applicants to inform them of their rights and responsibilities.
• Perform initial application interview for public assistance programs and services.
• Ensure accuracy and completion of application and declaration forms.

Education and Experience Required

Graduation from High School or GED plus two (2) years of full-time experience performing increasingly complex clerical office support duties comparable to the Office Assistant II classification for Nevada County. One year of experience at the Senior Office Assistant level is preferred. Experience must have included substantial public contact.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid California driver's license within 30 days of hire.

Retirement

The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
