    Duties


    • Conduct surveys/inspections throughout all phases of exercises/operations
    • Maintain the quality of Safety Programs; make recommendations for improvements
    • Formulate, develop, organize, execute, and assess the Command Units, their subordinate elements, and associated activities
    • Research, study, and evaluate operations and risks that occur during tactical, combat, field operations, and exercises
    • Work with Supervisors on correcting safety issues through engineer controls, i.e. personal protective clothing/equipment
    • Provide technical safety advice to a variety of audiences
    • Conduct investigations, reporting, and analysis of off-duty injury and property damage accidents as identified for training and tactical accidents
    • Provide staff support to subordinate commands and serve as the senior professional and technical consultant on all safety matters
    • Coordinate with other activities, i.e. Fire Protection, Medical, Law Enforcement, etc., to execute program objectives
    • Speak for, and represent, the Command on committees and councils dealing with safety program matters
    • Approve short- and long-range plans for the Safety Office to include identifying and preparing budget input for Command Operating Budget cycles and current budget year executions

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
    • Must have completed Level I Skills related training as outlined in the Army Career Program (CP-12) Master Training Plan or within one year of appointment.
    • Incumbent must possess and be able to maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
    • Incumbent is deployable (world-wide) with military units assigned/attached to the Army Reserve in support of tactical, contingency, and field operations for up to 365 days.
    • Prior to appointment to the position, employee will pass a pre-employment deployment medical examination and yearly thereafter in accordance with the Combat Command personal deployment guidance (current CENTCOM MOD).
    • Prior to appointment to the position, employee will sign a statement agreeing to the Emergency Essential conditions of employment.
    • Incumbent is required to sign a mobility agreement.
    • Must pass physical examination and be physically able to perform job requirements for extended periods of time.
    • This position may be covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
    • Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
    • This position has been designated a Testing Designated Position and is therefore covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program which requires random drug urinalysis testing.
    • This is an EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL (E-E) position subject to deployment.
    • This position may involve exposure to hazardous materials and/or extreme temperatures.
    • EMPLOYEE MUST PASS A MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND RECEIVE REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS FOR THE OVERSEAS/DEPLOYED LOCATION.
    • Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

    You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

    Specialized Experience:

    One year of specialized experience which includes: managing safety and occupational health program elements; developing and recommending safety and occupational health programs or policies to higher level officials; applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; evaluating existing safety programs or inspecting workplaces to determine possible hazards; applying safety and occupational health knowledge to reduce or control hazards; and training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.

    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must mee the qualifications requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    Time in Grade Requirement:

    • This is an EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL (E-E) position subject to deployment.
    Anthrax inoculation program participation can be a requirement to meet deployability requirements. This position is considered E-E in support of DA's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension and mobilization. Position is also considered E-E because (1) no qualified and immediate replacement exists; and (2) having the position vacant would impair the effective operation of essential military support systems, or adversely impact the combat mission of deployed forces. IAW (Chapter 75, Title 5 USC; FPM Chapter 753) E-E civilians are required to sign a copy of DoD Form 2365 (DoD Civilian Employee Overseas Emergency-Essential Position Agreement), agreeing that, as a requirement of the position, he/she will remain in the event of hostilities or mobilization until relieved by proper authority. Single parents or families, where both parents are E-E, are required to prepare a family care plan. E-E civilians are required to undergo nuclear-biological and chemical training, and are required to participate in readiness tests, mobilization, alerts, and field training exercises. EMPLOYEE MUST PASS A MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND RECEIVE REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS FOR THE OVERSEAS/DEPLOYED LOCATION.
