    Description

    Position Summary

    Shelby County Government is looking for individuals who are interested in being considered for TemporaryMedical Assistant opportunities. Applications are accepted and valid January through December of each year.

    Positions are only available when there is a vacancy within the hiring department. As positions become available, applications will be considered based on experience, education and special requirements.

    Minimum Qualifications

    100% -

    Works under the direct supervision of anassigned supervisor to perform a variety of routine technical laboratoryprocedures.

    1.Two (2) years of experience as a medical assistant; and

    2. Graduation from a nationallycertified medical assistant program.

    3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING,AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Works with other personnel of higher classifications to perform duties including, but not limited to, specimen accessioning, phlebotomy, collection of other samples, and obtaining limited history relevant to procedure.

    2. Collects venous and other specimens and performs designated laboratory procedure.

    3. Performs paramedical lab procedures (autoclaving, preparing reagents, etc.) as needed.

    4. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

    KSA's

    KSAs -

    1. Knowledge of basic principles of the medical technology related to job duties.

    2. Knowledge of routine medical techniques including phlebotomy.

    3. Ability to learn techniques required in performing laboratory procedures.

    4. Ability to interact tactfully with the public and co-workers

    5. Ability to read and carry out technical orders and procedures.

    6. Skilled in operating a computer; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, databases, etc.).

    Physical Requirements

    Some positions may require heavy lifting, pulling, climbing, standing for a long time, etc.
