    Position Summary

    The role of the Subject Expert Teacher (SET) is to ensure the day-to-day exceptional education of students by preparing and facilitating subject specific lesson plans. Subject Expert Teachers implement the established BASIS Curriculum while tailoring specific topics to integrate their knowledge and passion for the subject.

    CHEMISTRY 6 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of chemistry and scientific inquiry. Students will learn about the structure and properties of matter, the organization of the periodic table, chemical bonding, physical and chemical changes, and molar quantities. Students will explore these concepts through laboratory activities and demonstrate proper safety procedures and techniques.

    CHEMISTRY 7 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    Students will deepen their understanding of the chemistry concepts learned in sixth grade. Students will practice using the language and nomenclature of chemistry in measurements and with the representation of chemical reactions using balanced chemical equations. Students will also apply mathematics to solve numerical problems relating to the application of chemical concepts. Students in this course will attain this in-depth knowledge through hands-on laboratory activities.

    CHEMISTRY 8 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    Students will study the basic principles of atomic structure, elements, compounds, molar quantities, and the periodic table. Students will also be introduced to high school level concepts such as gas laws, stoichiometry, and types of reactions.

    Essential Functions:

    • Preparing and facilitating subject and grade specific lesson plans
    • Providing subject instruction on a higher level than grade-standard in an interactive learning environment to achieve exceptional results for all students
    • Implementing the BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments to ensure students' education is internationally competitive
    • Managing student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, individuality, and respect in all students
    • Participating in extracurricular programs, such as clubs and sports
    • Substituting/ duty coverage as needed
    • Occasionally represent BASIS Ed Texas at designated school wide community events outside of typical school hours
    • Supervising individual students and/or groups of students
    • Other duties as assigned

        Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related subject from an accredited college or university. Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Public Safety (DPS) clearance.

        Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite

        Preferred Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry or related subject.

        Preferred Experience: 2+ years teaching/education experience

        Benefits and Salary: Starting Teacher Salary is $45,000 and is negotiable dependent on education and experience. BASIS Ed offers a comprehensive benefits package.
