    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    The Admissions Counselor works as a member of the Office of Admissions, reporting directly to the Dean of Enrollment Services. The Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting new students to South Plains College through recruiting events, personal visits, campus tours, email correspondence, and phone conversations. The Admissions Counselor assists prospective students through the enrollment process. Development of a high level of knowledge regarding South Plains College's academic and technical offerings and the College's services is essential.

    This position requires a professional appearance and demeanor as well as strong communication skills. High energy and a positive approach to working with students and colleagues is a must. The individual must be customer service oriented and must work well in a team context.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    1. Works directly with the Dean of Enrollment Services and Coordinator of New Student Programs to implement the recruitment activities of the college.
    2. Responds to prospective student requests and greets visitors to campus while providing excellent customer service.
    3. Maintains effective communication with area high school counselors, principals, and prospective students, serving as an information liaison between the College and these persons.
    4. Represents the college at all major career days and college nights scheduled by TACRAO, NMCAC, area high schools and other groups within the College's service area.
    5. Promotes the college through public speaking events at area schools and within service area communities.
    6. Assists in the planning and implementation of new student programs and recruitment events.
    7. Assists prospective students through enrollment process including application for admission, financial aid, advising, scholarships, and housing.
    8. Arranges and/or conducts campus tours for visiting students.
    9. Maintains accurate records of recruiting events and activities for on-going evaluation of recruitment initiatives.
    10. Works cooperatively with academic programs and student service offices of the College to provide prospective students necessary resources and connections with faculty and staff.
    11. Maintains a comprehensive data system for responding to student inquiries, distribution of recruitment literature and tracking prospective students through the prospect and admissions process.
    12. Performs other duties that are deemed necessary by the Dean of Enrollment Services.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Minimum Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S., B.B.A) with major in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field. College attendance at a public community college will be given preferential consideration.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS

    Ability to communicate and effectively present information in small group and large group situations, as well as one-to-one situations with students, parents, visitors, faculty, and other employees of the organization. Possess excellent public speaking skills and ability to project a positive image for the college.

    LANGUAGE, WRITING AND REPORTING SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple and complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and reports. Ability to write well, employing accepted principles of business communications, is preferred.

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    Experience in applying current computer technology and software applications to essential responsibilities, duties, and tasks. Knowledge and experience working with computers and software in a Windows environment.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with a wide variety of people and participate as a team member to accomplish multiple projects and goals. Ability to meet and greet the public in a positive and productive way.

    ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

    Ability to organize tasks and activities essential to performing the specific duties and responsibilities of this job. Ability to organize and direct people to assist with recruitment events.
