    Molokai General Hospital is a 15-bed rural health care facility with a Critical Access Hospital designation. It provides the only emergency room for the residents and visitors on the island of Molokai. MGH is an affiliate of The Queen's Health System since 1987. The Queen's Health System 'ohana includes over 8000 employees and more than 1400 physicians with 1,000 specialists statewide.

    Molokai General Hospital provides acute care, inpatient hospice, skilled nursing, and low-risk obstetrical services. We also offer primary care in a rural health clinic, chemotherapy, limited specialty procedures, diabetes management, family planning, physical therapy (including aquatic therapy), veteran's services and chronic disease navigation services.

    JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

    (Reference: State of Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Title 16 sub chapter 14, Hawaii Revised Statues.)
    • The APRN functions as an expert practitioner with educator consultant, researcher and leadership role components and functions autonomously and in collaboration with other health care professionals to enhance the quality of nursing practice and patient care.
    • Provides health care that includes services to individuals and families which emphasize health promotion, disease prevention, and diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases. Direct care services may include, but are not limited to, obtaining a patient history, providing a complete or focused physical examination, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, patient and family education, and dealing with social, economic and ethical issues within the scope of a health care provider. Indirect patient care services may include but are limited to setting standards for nursing practice and facilitating the professional practice of nursing care at the bedside.
    • Develops protocols for care, as appropriate, serves as a health care researcher , interdisciplinary consultant , and patient advocate .
    • Depending upon area of assignment , performs various duties as given below.
    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    A. DIRECT PATIENT CARE: (REQUIRES CREDENTIALING AND PRIVILEGING)
    • Uses advanced practice knowledge of functional health patterns, physiology, pathophysiology , psychosociology , and age-specific needs in assessment of patient/families within area of expertise to assess health status, perform H&Ps, diagnose health conditions , conduct and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, develop and implement a patient treatment plan, and evaluate patient/family outcomes based on physical and psychological responses.
    • Identifies patients/families at risk in order to prevent/minimize disease or complications .
    • Maintains a patient load and follows patients throughout the continuum of care, as appropriate .
    • Completes all necessary regulatory paperwork including medical records, billing and tracking forms, and other forms and documents as required.
    B. EDUCATION:
    • Facilitates the acquisition and application of clinical knowledge, theoretical knowledge and decision making skills of nurses, nursing students and other health care professionals .
    • Contributes to nursing knowledge through presentations and scholarly publications.
    • Assesses learning needs to design, implement and evaluate comprehensive teaching programs for specific patient populations, health care professionals and community groups to improve patient outcomes .
    C. CONSULTATION:
    • Facilitates the problem-solving and decision making skills of patient/family , health care professionals and organizations .
    • Provides consultation services to health care professionals and consumers within the institution.
    • Develops, evaluates and revises standards , policies and procedures within area of specialty as requested .
    D. LEADERSHIP:
    • Participates and is proactive in the development , implementation and evaluation of departmental and institutional goals.
    • Evaluates clinical outcomes relating to nursing practice, resource utilization and environmental conditions.
    • Contributes to the financial integrity of the institution through the identification and implementation of cost- effective practice.
    • Demonstrates effective decision making for efficient matching of demands and resources to resolve clinical and professional issues.
    • Assists in the evaluation of clinical performance of self, peers and others.
    • Participates in professional organizations on a local, national or international level.
    E. MANAGEMENT:

    Directs and manages staff, as assigned, in accordance with all regulatory requirements as well as policies of Molokai General Hospital.

    F. PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT AND RESEARCH:
    • Participates in and or conducts performance improvement activities.
    • Participates in and or conducts research.
    • Utilizes evidenced based practice to develop and maintain clinical knowledge and technical skills .
    G. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    • Essential: standing , sitting , walking , finger dexterity, seeing , hearing, speaking , reaching above, at and below shoulder, frequent gripping of an object.
    • Occasional: stooping , bending, squatting , twisting body, lifting, and carrying weight up to 20 pounds.
    • Operates various office and medical equipment including personal computers.
    TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
    • May be exposed to communicable disease and body fluids, sharps and chemicals.
    • May be required to deal with hostile patients and/or families .
    • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions .
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
    • Recognition as an APRN by the Hawaii State Board of Nursing.
    • Current BLS certification; ACLS as required for area.
    • Credentialing and privileging required if providing medical level of care.
    • Prescriptive authority for non-controlled and controlled substances depending upon area of assignment
    B. EXPERIENCE:
    • Two (2) years nursing experience required.
    • One (1) year of clinical experience working as an APRN preferred.
    Base salary begins at $138,611.00/year with opportunity for value based incentives.
