    Job Summary



    The employee will be an integral part of the Tison lab ), a highly active and productive computational research lab composed of members of varied expertise including in machine learning and artificial intelligence in medicine. The primary responsibilities of the Research Data Analyst in the Tison lab include interpreting and communicating research results through written prose and visual formats (i.e. Figures and tables), obtaining and analyzing data using statistical methods and executing requisite components throughout the clinical research project lifecycle. They will work closely with all lab members to carry out research projects and communicate results. Key required skills include a demonstrated interest and ability in scientific writing to communicate research methods, context within existing literature and research results in well-written prose as well as visual formats. Works on research data reporting assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

    Department Description



    The Tison lab ) is led by Dr. Geoff Tison, MD MPH, who is a part of the Division of Cardiology at UCSF and the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute. As such the Research Data Analyst will be part of a large and vibrant computational community and research infrastructure.

    The San Francisco campus of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is one of nine University of California campuses. UCSF consists of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing, each ranked first in NIH funding in their respective disciplines. The UCSF Cardiology Division is an academic and vibrant research-oriented group within the UCSF Department of Medicine. The Division consists of over 60 full-time faculty (including clinicians, clinician-scientists, and PhDs), a full clinical research staff including 24 research associates & nurses, and support staff for clinical research (in addition to extensive basic and translational programs). Along with the UCSF Cardiovascular Research Institute and the Gladstone Institute, the cardiovascular research community is unparalleled in depth and breadth.



    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in related area and one or more years of relevant experience and / or equivalent experience / training
    • Working knowledge of clinical research principles and research design
    • Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design using statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, R or Python
    • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
    • Demonstrated interest and ability in scientific writing to communicate research methods, context within existing literature and results in well-written prose
    • Proficiency in creating publication-quality tables and figures to communicate research results visually using software such as excel, PowerPoint, keynote, Tableau, adobe illustrator, adobe photoshop etc.
    • Experience in carrying out the necessary elements throughout the clinical research life cycle including institutional review board application, clinical data extraction, data input (ie RedCap), data cleaning and processing, relevant statistical analysis and results summarization


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's degree in relevant field (i.e. Masters of Public Health, Communications, Writing, Statistics, Data Science)
    • Experience with clinical research data and methods, including in the cardiovascular and medical domains
