    Primary Function & Position Overview

    As a Lead Teacher at Public Prep, you will foster student independence while supporting culturally and linguistically diverse learners. Responsible for both academic and social-emotional success, you will plan, monitor, and deliver instruction in mathematics, English Language Arts, social studies, and social-emotional learning, collaborating with grade-level teams and support staff.

    In ICT classrooms, close collaboration with Special Education Co-Teachers, Interventionists, and other staff is essential. Supported by the Instructional Leadership Team, you will receive frequent observation, feedback, and coaching based on the Charlotte Danielson framework. Building strong family partnerships through home visits, events, and regular communication is also a key component of the role.

    Key Responsibilities

    Instruction and Preparation:

    • Address diverse learning needs and create independent learning opportunities.
    • Deliver high-quality, cognitively engaging lessons in core content areas.
    • Use data to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes.
    • Integrate social-emotional instructional practices into daily teaching.

    Relationship Building and Student Support:

    • Foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment for all stakeholders.
    • Manage student behaviors constructively, using restorative justice principles.
    • Maintain high standards for effort and celebrate student progress.

    Family and Community Engagement:

    • Build trust with families through weekly communication and authentic engagement.
    • Provide families with resources and tools to support learning at home.
    • Partner with families to ensure holistic support for student success.

    Professional Responsibilities:

    • Reflect on feedback to continuously improve teaching practices.
    • Participate in mentorship, coaching cycles, and professional development.
    • Maintain accurate records for grading and progress monitoring.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the broader school community.

    Qualifications

    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • An M.A., Ed.M, or master's degree in a relevant content area (preferred).
    • New York State Certification for relevant grades and content areas (or progress toward reciprocity).
    • At least 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time elementary classroom teacher.
    • Experience in high-performing, urban school settings (preferred).
    • Desire to work with a diverse population of students and linguistic backgrounds.
    • Evidence of teaching excellence through continuous learning and data analysis.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
    • A commitment to single-gender education and a growth mindset.
