    OVERVIEW

    Colby is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and has 32 intercollegiate sports that compete at the Division III level.

    The department also includes the campus recreation program and hosts a variety of club and intramural sports.

    More than one-third of Colby's 2,200 students participate in intercollegiate sports and, in total, nearly three-quarters are involved in fitness and recreation activities in the department.


    The College is home to a state-of-the-art athletics complex which is among the best Division III facilities in the country.

    The 350,000 square-foot athletics center includes an indoor track and field competition center, aquatic center with Maine's first 50-meter pool, squash center, gymnasium, hockey arena, strength and fitness center, training rooms, and coaching suites.

    Additionally, the College opened a 70-acre-plus outdoor competition center that consists of three gleaming new competition and recreational fields that are also among the finest outdoor venues in Division III.

    Located in central Maine, the College has incredible access to other outdoor venues such as the Belgrade Lakes and Sugarloaf Mountain Resort, one of the premier ski destinations on the east coast.


    The Colby College Department of Athletics seeks an innovative and forward-thinking assistant director of athletics for facilities and operations beginning June 1, 2024 or as soon as possible.

    The assistant director oversees a dynamic facilities department that is aligned with Colby Department of Athletics' goal of comprehensive excellence.

    As a member of the athletics leadership team, this position will help to execute the growth and vision of one of the most expansive athletic programs in Division III.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Provide strategic direction for one of the most expansive athletics programs in Division III including facilities management of a 350,000 square foot athletic complex
    Deliver best in class sporting events, including submitting bids to host NCAA post-season competition
    Create and maintain operational procedures and policies to operate highly visible, best in class varsity programs
    Serve as member of the administrative leadership team within the Department of Athletics
    Collaborate with coaches, local athletic constituents, and NESCAC and NCAA colleagues to ensure complete and proper delivery of sporting events
    Develop a comprehensive student employee training program for game management
    Lead and oversee overall facilities and game operations, to include: facilities scheduling, event management, game management, game contracts, officials and collaborating with supporting elements such as sports information, athletic training, and visiting teams/participants
    Serve as the liaison to Campus Events and Facility Services and complete work orders as necessary
    Coordinate use of athletic facilities by outside organizations
    Develop and maintain facility access policies and procedures
    Serve as a sport administrator with oversight of some varsity athletic programs and coaches
    Schedule locker room usage and repair
    Attend and participate in department trainings pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion
    Communicate and enforce appropriate NCAA and NESCAC rules and regulations
    Cover athletic events supporting their operations on weekends, evenings, and/or early mornings
    Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Exceptional organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects, as well as the flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities as new projects are assigned
    Proven experience in records management and development of administrative policies and procedures
    Ability to handle extensive public contact with courtesy, tact, discretion, and judgment
    Demonstrated willingness to engage in continuous learning
    Proven experience successfully leading complex projects through completion
    Supervisory skills to provide oversight and direction
    Ability to function effectively under pressure; check work to ensure accuracy and completeness; track and follow-up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled
    Demonstrate outstanding planning and organizational skills including a mastery of efficient and responsive calendar management
    Ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems, and make decisions
    Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in educational experience
    5 plus years of increasingly responsible leadership in athletics, facility management preferred
    Outstanding oral and written communications skills and attention to detail
    Strong self-initiative and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines with minimal supervision
    Ability to effectively communicate with local and regional stakeholders
    Familiarity with NCAA Division III and conference regulations (NESCAC), exercise significant independent judgment to maintain compliance
    Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and of a diverse community
    Must possess creative initiative, flexibility, and high energy
    Aptitude for collaborating with others and maintaining positive working relationships with staff, coaches, administrators, and campus colleagues
    Valid driver's license required and must meet the College's Fleet Safety Policy requirements
    Ability to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis based on game schedules and travel as required

    General office, athletic facility, and campus environment. The position will require work outside and in inclement weather. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and occasional lifting is required. Computer usage involving repetitive and/wrist motion is required.

    The position will be a full-time, fiscal year appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by athletic schedules.
