    Description

    The Campus Pastor is an eleven month position and benefit eligible and would report to the Provost and Chief Operation Officer.

    The Pastor will directly and effectively support the fundamental goals of the college in student recruitment, student retention, and resource building.

    Responsibilities also include engaging students from mainline Christian traditions, supporting students who are active in the Intervarsity ministry at Carthage, and students from all faith traditions including Jewish, Muslim, and other traditions.

    The pastor will oversee all ministry programs and efforts directed towards students in order to help them grow in their adult faith and create a spiritually vibrant campus community.


    DUTIES:

    • Work to help meet the College's admissions goals on an annual basis, working collaboratively under the direction of the College's.
    • Work to help meet the College's retention goals, including seeking to eliminate equity gaps in retention and graduation rates consistent with the College's participation in the national Moonshot for Equity retention initiative.
    • Work collaboratively with the President and College Advancement Office to engage alumni and donors to secure gifts and support for the Campus ministry program.
    • Provide religious programming consistent with the Rooted and Open philosophy of the ELCA colleges and universities, nurturing the Lutheran identity and character of the college as well as students across the Christian spectrum and other faith traditions.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues across campus to support the College through major events (Homecoming, Christmas Festival, Baccalaureate, Commencement, and other campus events).
    • Provide pastoral counseling to students from all faith traditions and students not actively engaged with a faith tradition.
    • Provide counseling and support to students interested in pursuing religious vocations, regardless of religious affiliation.
    • Work cooperatively with several local congregations from multiple faith traditions in line with an ongoing Memorandum of Agreement.
    • Supervise The Center for Faith and Spirituality Student Staff. Serve on miscellaneous and ad hoc committees as appropriate.

    QUALIFICATION:

    • Education generally equivalent to a Master's Degree in Divinity.
    • 3 to 5 years of experience in ministry, including campus ministry, education, or similar work.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with employees, students, alumni, and faculty members.
    • The ability to use a personal computer and word processing, spreadsheet, and Google software.
    • The ability to use a variety of standard office equipment such as a 10-key calculator, telephone, and computer keyboard.
    Review of applications will begin March 8, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. The desired start date is in the beginning of the fall term in late August.
