    Position Summary

    • The Nursing Assistant performs patient care support duties related to environmental, dietary, transportation, supplies, and light maintenance activities. Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, and administrative/clerical support.

    Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities

    • Supports other direct care givers as needed, under the direction of the R.N., by assisting with activities of daily living such as ambulation, bedpans, toileting, positioning, incontinence, and transfers to chairs, log roll, mouth care, and maintaining patient safety.
    • Ensures Hourly Patient Rounding is incorporated into the daily Patient Care routine; Records patient charges timely and accurately as described in the procedural manual; supports other team members as needed by answering telephones and performing other administrative/clerical tasks.
    • Prioritizes work and makes changes as warranted, promotes customer satisfaction through positive behaviors, and interacting with patients, visitors, and staff members.
    • Assists patients with menu completion; reviews for correct choices according to a prescribed diet and delivers the menu to the dietary office.
    • Communicates diet changes and patient discharges/transfers to the dietary office.
    • Prepares the patient and environment for a meal; passes tray and assists patients with meals as patients' needs require; documents intake, I/O, and vital signs; Collects trays, prepares and delivers nourishments to assigned patients; provides water, ice, and all between meal dietary needs to patients; prepares and delivers special or late trays upon request; orders and maintains standard stock foods.
    • Transports assigned patients throughout all areas of the hospital as directed, including lifting and assisting the patient from bed to wheelchairs and back as may be required; Assists with patient transfers and discharges, including the removal of equipment from patient rooms after discharge.
    • Performs supply acquisition and distribution on-unit as needed; Distributes clean linen and collects dirty linen.
    • Assists with the orientation of new employees as requested.
    • All other duties not specifically assigned.

    Position Requirements

    • Education: High School diploma or GED required.
    • Experience: Three (3) to Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in the field or profession preferred.
    • Technical Skills: Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal; must be organized and detail-oriented and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
    • Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: BLS required within 3 months of hire.
